Oops My Bad, But I Actually Used My Backbone!

I just wrote a thread on a dcm who thinks her children have everything under the sun and that one of my dcb's has strep so of course her child does too and I just rolled my eyes....well turns out he went to the doc's and does have it, oops but she said the doc said he barely has it. Either you do or don't.

BUT I actually used my backbone! Yesterday dad dropped off his 2 dcb's. About an hour later mom calls and tells me that she is picking up one dcb at 1 (this was around 9) to take him to the doc because she thought he may have strep. Of course I say ok and hang up. Then I thought about it-if she thinks he has it, he shouldn't be here! So I got up the nerve to call her and tell her this! FINALLY-I used my backbone! happyface I had her come pick him up! Of course she stammered on about how he prob doesn't have it and she's probably being too paranoid, but nevertheless she came and got him. She was on the phone of course and I could hear her dramatically say that her day was crumbling around her and that she has to pick up L and drop off her friends child (she is a nanny for her while her kids come here) and that she couldn't go back to work and she has to take the camper in to blah, blah, blah! I think she wanted me to feel bad, but guess what...I didn't! And I also told her that her kids couldn't come back for 24 hours after the meds were started if he did have strep.

Then when she came to pick up the brother (I let him stay while she went to the doc, I know I should've sent him home too) she tells he has a touch of strep and that she just had them call in a prescription for the brother just in case, but then calls today and tells me that later last night she called her friend (who is a doctor) and had her call in a prescription for the brother and he got it at 11 so they will not be here today, but will return tomorrow. So she lied in the first place. Of course I didn't catch it until I hung up. Ughhhh.

Sorry I'm going on, the whole point is that I actually used my backbone, something I've been struggling to do! This mom really made me stop and think; I can't believe she would send him thinking that he may be sick! NOW I'm not going to be afraid to say things to parents!

clearly she's lying. I too believe that you either have it or you don't. Not half way inbetween. Good for you for using your backbone. Next time she'll think twice before she pulls that stunt again.

He has a "touch" of symptoms, dcm, but he still has it!

Luckily, I haven't had an issue like this yet, but I would not feel comfortable with a dcp that didn't stop to think that bringing her possibly sick child to daycare could be a no no.

I really do not understand venting your frustration about having to pick up your sick/might be sick child from daycare in front of your daycare provider or TO your daycare provider. They are not the parent. They do not need to be exposed to the little germs nor do the other children. I just can't imagine myself ever doing that and that is why it baffles me so very much.

Let this be the start of your "sick backbone" standing strong! When I have a parent like that now, I know I sound pretty short (possibly rude?). I don't care to act bubbly and nice in that situation any longer so I don't.

The one time she actually tries to underplay her children's symptoms is when they have a real illnesses. Plus its something that the other kids (as well as you and other parents) can actually catch and can cause an epidemic. Apparently she is only a drama queen when its beneficial to her but doesn't give a beaver's dam about the health and well-being or kids that aren't hers. If that's the case, maybe she should reconsider the teaching thing.

Lol, I was just going to censor it but then it looked like I said a different bad four letter word and I didn't want it to look too vulgar or too angry. I used to say it when I was a kid to avoid getting in trouble, like Shiitake mushrooms.

Does the dad not realize strep tests are immediate result?? Like before you leave the dr office? Not days??

                    I'd call the bluff.

That is what I thought so I texted saying I was confused and that I thought that they did have it and they need to stay on the meds until they are gone or else everyone else could get it. She said that one was a false pos and they retested him and are waiting and that she wouldn't send them here sick and contagious and sounded mad. Whatever!
Yesterday she kept them home, but she said that her kids are allergic to red dye #40 and the THEIR doc. gave them antibiotic with it in it so they had to get a new one and had the kids retested and that one of the cultures has not come back yet so they are keeping them on the meds in case....sounds fishy! And I know that they come back right away, but I don't think she knows that I know that.

My ds's pediatrician gave me the option of the immediate result test or the culture... he said a culture would be undeniable proof that he has/doesn't have strep and the immediate result test isn't quite as reliable.

I would require a legit doctors note with a number for verification and (if possible) a copy of the official results. If they're going to play back-and-forth with their children's 'conditions', they need to be called on their B.S.

Lol and since e child has taken antibiotics, the culture isn't accurate either. If someone is on antibiotics they can have full blown strep and even the culture will sometimes be negative. I'd exclude based in symptoms and tell the mom in the future, she has to take your personal form to the doctor and he has to fill it out with a phone number for verification.

                              There's a form for that
