When 100 babies were put on their backs, and 100 on their tummies in an Australian study some years ago, the back sleepers fared better by 30%. That's huge. They don't know WHY though. I see there are studies going on all the time, but there are no real answers.

I put my babies on their backs because I have to, and I couldn't live with myself if I broke that rule and something happened. Of course, if anything happened, I'd beat myself up anyway.

I haven't had a daycare kid yet that didn't sleep on their tummy once they could choose. It's place on back, flip over, butt in air, and snore softly......
Agree- I do it because they say its safest and well- they know more than me! But it def interferes with the sleeping patterns. And flat heads don't even get me started !!
And yes- I don't get paid enough to be a paci placer all through nap time!! ::

      Update from OP

I've stopped the paci useage, baby falls asleep easily now but still won't sleep past the 30 minute mark. He startles awake and then works himself up to screaming within a minute and obviously nap is over at that point as parents don't want CIO until 8 or 9 months (as oer their pediatrician). Worst part is...mom said he took 3 1-2 hour naps at home yesterday. Ugh! What am I doing wrong???? I've never had so much trouble with an infant before. He just does not want to sleep here.

      Any other suggestions?

OP here, wanted to add, the way DCM got baby to sleep so well is to give a lovie and to put in an oversized sleep sack, because baby likes to hold something over his face. I'm going to need to talk to her about this, I mentioned this morning that I cannot give a lovie nor can I put him in a sleep sack that is so big he can cover his face with it. I did ask mom "can he actually pull it up high enough to cover his mouth and nose?" And she said yes, I replied that due to that I cannot let him use it here.

I feel like no matter what I will fail because I cannot match what DCM is doing at home.

Patience and consistancy. I know it's hard, but just give him a little more time. I am all for CIO but I also wouldn't start until 6-8 months. 4 months is too young.
          Good luck!

The sleep sack they brought for him is too big. He's able to cover is face with it it's so loose.

Maybe you could get a smaller one and keep it at your house. Reuse it for other kiddos.

So kids like to feel the "weight" of a blanket on them. But we cant give them blankets, so the sleep sack is a good option.

A few providers on here swear by them

Any providers from MA know if we're allowed to use them here?

We are discouraged from using them here because a baby can over heat. And that's a risk factor for SIDS. I've never had the privilege of having a cold natured child or daycare child but I guess it would work for them.

The new baby I have gets to hot even swaddled with the lightest receiving blanket. Matter of fact any clothes warmer than a onesie and he gets too hot. My daughter was the same way. And my house is kept 72 degrees.
