    Have our first biter

Great. Just what I needed with this already trouble child Last week he bit dd because she had a book he wanted. Today he bit another dcb because he had a toy he wanted. I immediately comforted the victim and removed the offender to the super yard with a very stern "NO BITE. Not nice. Biting HURTS." and then gave much attention and cuddles to the boy that was bitten. I really hope this doesn't become a habit. At first he seemed a little taken back that he was separated but now he's happily playing by himself. Think I need to take more of the toys out? With DD I didn't have to document the biting but did let DCM know about the incident. Today I have to notify both parents and fill out my 'Biting in Childcare' form. This offender is 14 months. DD is 2. 5 and today's victim is 13 months. Guess I'll be shadowing him for the next couple weeks.

At 14 weeks I think a separate but "fun" area is appropriate for control when you cannot be within arms reach. I don't think they would get the TO aspect yet. I would def try a pacifier, washcloth, teething toy so he has something he can bite. And I would continue w the stern loud NO! I try to be quick and loud- so it startles them... I only do that for severe behavior but it does tend to work. A loud hand clap w it helps
Good luck - hope it doesn't become a "thing"!

Not that I would EVER do it..., but remember when our moms bit us if we bit someone else? (we also rode in the back of pickups & lived to tell about it.)

I found this, and it's way more articulate than I am:

Trying your best to understand the underlying cause of toddler biting will help you develop an effective response.
