Your Child Does Not Have Everything Under The Sun And You Don't Know Everything..Ugh!

I have a dcm that I have talked about on here quite a few times. She is so irritating! She thinks her kids have everything under the sun! She's the one who just graduated with a teaching degree in special education. Her kids have everything....it it just happens to be everything that people seem to be getting on the bandwagon for. Anyways, this morning I had to tell parents that one of the children has strep, just in case they notice anything going on with their child. This dcm mentioned, comes and drops off and tells me that her son has been coughing a lot and to call her if it gets bad (he has asthma). No mention of thinking he has strep. So then I tell her just to watch because one of the children is out with strep...and all of a sudden she's like "oh L, I hope you don't have strep. She leaves. Then at pick up she asks how he did (I did send her a text earlier saying how bad he was coughing and conveniently, this woman who has her phone glued to her ear, didn't get it) so I tell her that he was coughing while sleeping and she's says "oh I forgot his breathing machine and then says L, you might have strep. I'll check for white spots when we get home". Ok, he has ASTHMA! Could that be why he is coughing? He has NO other symptoms of strep!

Then my son was pulling himself up onto one of the shelving units (he just turned 1 and is not walking yet) and was on his tip toes. She has to open her mouth and say "oh B. look at your fancy shoes. You are standing on your tip toes, you're confused"! What? Confused? I then had to tell her that he's wearing shoes because we were outside and there are wood chips and they tend to hurt the tops of the crawlers' feet and the she needs to bring shoes for her child. She kind of huffed and said that she would have to dig around to find some... NO, shoes are required to go outside! I'm all for not wearing shoes when learning to walk, but I think they are a necessity for outside play and don't tell me my son is confused! And she's always commenting about my 22 month old who can't talk yet...it's none of your business!

Then she tells me the other day that her 2.5 year old child is getting tested for autism and I may need to fill out a paper and asks me how he does socially and I tell her great and she goes on to tell me "well there is only one other child his age here so it's hard to tell". Give me a break! Her son has no signs of having any form of autism! I have worked with children with autism and my uncle's step son is autistic and while I am not a doctor by any means, I know he doesn't have any form of autism and I just can't believe she thinks he does. I hope the tests come back and tell her it's all in her head! It's like she wants her children to have something. I just don't get it! Oh and both of her boys have gluten and dairy allergies and one is allergic to red dye. But it's funny that dad said one day that the doctors don't think that the younger one has a gluten allergy, but mom just died the other day when I said that her son (who probably doesn't have the allergy) had lentil soup and asked if it has wheat in it. And whenever her 2.5 year old son doesn't listen or throws a fit, she blames it on him getting into gluten! Don't 2.5 year olds throw fits, could it be normal???? I feel like she learned about all the different things that people can have and in a way wants her children to have something. It's so weird and I don't get it! Why would you want your children to have allergies or disabilities?

This woman drives me crazy! Please don't make comments about my son and his shoes and your children don't have everything under the sun! It's not "cool" for your children to have a disability or allergy at all! And you don't know everything!

    Sorry I had to vent.

Has anyone had any experiences with parents like this? What do/did you say? I just want to roll my eyes every time she talks!

Ugh- that is so frustrating!! I swear it is one extreme or the other
I do have a parent like that- who is also my friend... I love her but geez! Her kid threw up last pm and she said that it is becoming a monthly thing... I said: you said that about your son over the winter! She said well I thought that was stomach issues but I think this is anxiety-
OR it could be just a stomach bug!!

      she's a label w h o r e...

it's never her parenting, it's never child development, it's always something wrong.

When I was growing up I have never even heard of ADHD, Autism, etc etc.

sorry you have to deal with a PITA mom..

I hope your day gets better

Absolutely. I tell parents that the ONLY way I can or will accommodate their child's allergy is with medical documentation. Otherwise, their kids get what all of the other kids do. It's a food program rule, and common sense...some people want attention so badly. To deprive your child of gluten because YOU think it's the thing to do means that your child could miss out on vital nutrients...it's one thing if your child has Celiac disease, another if you're just looking for the evil food d'jour.

I do have a doctor's note for the older child, but it's just an intolerance and she acts like he does have Celiac's disease. He even got into some noodles that weren't gluten free one day and was totally fine.

Is it attention seeking or money seeking? If she gets a diagnosis she could apply for SSI.

Hmmmm..probably both. She did just finish school and can't find what she calls a "real" job yet and they are hard up for money and at the same time this is the same woman who is a nanny for her friend while her kids come here and she said she wouldn't even be making enough to send them here and her husband will have to cover the rest....Makes me wonder!

she sounds overwhelmed with motherhood and using special needs/illness to "disguise" some of her own failings and struggles.

I've often wondered that. Why would you send your children to someone else's house and go take care of other children and not make enough to send them here? The 11 mo. old cries a lot, which is mostly her doing-she says she gets up every 1 to 2 hours to breastfeed him and I think she is overwhelmed, but it's her fault.

Not speaking to the mom's other whack-a-doodle antics, but an intolerance isn't anything to mess with either. It's not going to kill the kid to have a slice of wheat bread, but it could make them very uncomfortable later in the evenin, depending on the severity. I am gluten, wheat, & dairy intolerant, amongst other foods. If I accidentally consume even a small bit of gluten or dairy, it's not pretty. I get mood swings, migraines, extremely painful abdominal cramping, diarrhea, eczema breakouts on my hands. I've had a full IGG panel done, & a negative celiac blood test, but have never had a biopsy, which is the surefire way to prove celiac disease.. Not really willing to do that.

My daughter had problems for YEARS with her stomach, migraines, etc. until she cut out gluten.
