    Gift For Pregnant Client

I have a client that is due in September & will start with me in January. This is their first/only child. They have a contract with me already. Do you guys get anything for the mother and/or new baby when they deliver? I was thinking a small basket w/ some lactation tea, some special lotion for mom, maybe a cute cloth diaper for baby, since they'll be doing cloth. Maybe $20-$30 tops. Just wondering if others get new clients gifts when their baby arrives.

I don't take newborns, but when one of my current clients has a baby I do the following:
    1. Offer to watch older sibling overnight for free while they deliver.
    2. Give older sibling a baby doll and a book about being a sibling.
    3. Get a super small gift for the baby (usually one outfit...they don't need much).
    4. Make the new family a healthy-ish home-cooked meal for their first night home (I usually include the meal, a dessert, and possibly a breakfast item like muffins).

It completely depends on the family for me. I have given one family a gift (2 baby outfits and a card) and one family nothing. I do not watch infants, so these were new siblings for children currently in care.

If I were invited to the shower or I was a close friend I would do a gift. It depends on how creative you want to be.
Basket sounds nice. I appreciated meals after I had my son! My husband really appreciated them as well!

In that situation I would send them a card when the baby is born. They are not even clients yet, you barely know them, so that is all I do.
