    Charge for Extra Half Hour?

My charge is 160 per week, 7am-5pm. I have a family who needs care until 5:30. I usually tutor a kid at 5:30, so this will cause me to change my evening schedule. I said I could do it for an extra fee (I'm really needing to fill this spot)...but I'm wondering what's a fair price. I was thinking increasing the regular 160/week to 175 or 180. Is that too dramatic? They said they may be able to get someone to pick him up at 5...so I'm hoping maybe they'll hear the extra money and make that arrangments. Thanks for any opinions!

You would have to figure what you are averging per hr. If it's 4.00, and this is only a 1/2 hr, I would say $2 a day/$10/wk. I wouldnt go any higher or they might look elsewhere. I have done 5 hrs a wk extra for $10, so I think $10 for 2.5 hrs is way more than fair.

I would also do what the above poster said and take your $160 - figure our what that is hourly and 1/2 it I would then add probably an extra $2.00 just for your inconvience so you get a little extra something out of it.

If it were me I'd figure what my hourly was (in your case I think it's $3.20 an hour for a 10 hour day) and contract them until 5:30pm and charge the last 30 mins at the full hour rate since it is overtime for you. In this case it would be an extra $16 a week so right around the lowest of what what you were thinking originally. You could even charge the $175 instead if $176 just to round it out.

Like you said, if they think that the extra fee is a little much maybe they could find someone to pick the child up at 5pm instead. Explain it to them just like you did here. You'll be staying open over your regular hours just for them AND rescheduling your already regularly scheduled tutoring to accomodate for this family for only an extra $3 a day.

I think charging 175 would be fine, $180 might be too dramatic of a change. Like others have said, you could also take how much you make per hour and charge that.

Thanks guys. I think I'll stick with 175. When I break it down, 180 is dramatic but I also want it to be a little more than my normal hourly rate...since it's "over time" for me. Now I just hope it's a good match::

I'm so jealous that people get $30 + per day for Daycare. $25 barely flies around here. I got the averages for my zip code from Resource & Referral, and it's $24.

Our's is $18, and the town right next to us is even lower. I think $160/wk sounds like something we could only dream about! It's all in the location, state, etc... Maybe we should move...
But to the OP, I agree that $175 sounds fair. And the parents will more than likely find someone else to pick the child up when they realize the extra cost. I understand about needing to fill a spot, even if it means a schedule change. Whatever it takes, no matter the inconvenience (to a certain extent). But coming out ahead sure makes it worth it!

Yeah...I live in a D.C. suburb. Things aren't cheap around here ) Some places charge closer to 200. Most places are somewhere between 100-200 per week

Yep I charge $155 a week for 50 hours in my area but an average mortgage here is $2,500-$3,000 . Believe me, it doesn't leave much $$ for play.

I get $ 35/day (and they provide the food), $175/wk and I am not even licensed! Mortgages around here run 1000-1500.
