    Riding Cars Inside?

How many of you have cars that kids can ride inside? I have a couple but they seem to just make a big mess with kids running over toys and things. But the kids use them pretty often. I'm thinking about just moving them away from the toys or eliminating them from indoor play all together. Suggestions?

I'd like to, but my hardwood floors have already taken too much of a beating. I did have a couple push toys with wheels, but like you, found them to be more of a problem than an asset.

I prefer to save gross-motor stuff for outside.

Yea, I like having them inside especially because its so much easier for them to ride them inside than out (I have hardwood floors too) but I wish I had just a BIT more room. I just moved them and put the little tikes farm house in their place and it opened that play area up so much more I think I'm going to move them outside or to the basement when no one is looking

When I had 4-5 two-year-olds here I had 2. Upon changing my layout some more it became impossible for them to navigate around everything and really irritated other children who got run into. So, they went bye-bye!

I keep mine outside. If we are in a crazy hot, rainy, cold, snowy etc time, we'll put them in the garage and ride in there. I don't think I'd ever put them in my house. I only have hardwood in the kitchen/dining and I could see someone running into the walls-a lot. Our play area is carpet and they probably wouldn't go well.

I have a Thomas the Train ride on and a small hippo that "eats" blocks. We don't have too much of a problem, but I have tile and a really open layout.

And a strict "You hit someone, you lose a ride" rule.

We took all of our bigger cars (bigger than the size of my fist) outside for outside play only. They get lots of use out there! Inside we now do the "one car, one hand" rule Nanny De style We have just had too many issues with big cars!

We have 2 plasma cars for inside. The rules are that they cannot ride it into the playroom center area (only the main walkway from the playroom through the family room); if they hit anyone or anything, they are not allowed on the car for the remainder of the day; and it is not to be played with during quiet times. If the kids start fighting over it, then I impose a 5 minute rule on each child and set a timer.

I dont have any inside because it is normally the kids that are way too big for them that try and play on them. like you said, they run over everything and fight with them. I am talking the 3-5 crowd when those toys are made for 2 and under. i dont have any outside either because we have the same problem. causes fights. i dont have cozy coupes or anything like that. we have bikes, trikes and scooters only. the big kids can ride on those and the little guys are normally happy with just a random ball or something.

I have one...it was suppose to go outside but it ended up inside. I have 18 mo olds and 2 1/2 yr olds....they LOVE it and ride it really nicely and slowly. Otherwise it would leave, and FAST!

Hardwood floors here but painted floors, not stained. I bring all the big wheels inside in the winter. We have big wheel time & the kids will ride in a certain pattern throughout the daycare. In the summertime they ride them on the huge covered deck.
