Freaking OUT!

So I just discovered we have roaches. ROACHES. I'm so disgusted. My house is SPOTLESS so I'm devastated. I don't know what else I can do. I just moved into this house last year and its an older, but remodeled house built in 1938. I do have a pretty damp and dingy basement with a couple sump pumps (basements are pretty much unheard of in this area because how close we are to water level) and I know that's whats causing the problem. I just got off the phone with the exterminator and they're going to have to come and spray in the house, around the house and in the basement. I'm so upset and so grossed out. Not to mention this is a chemical free daycare! I use all natural cleaning products and don't like anything toxic around any of my kids. I cannot believe this is happening to me. I saw 4 roaches in the past week in my kitchen. I know this is going to be a problem and I'm so upset. I just started my business in September and things were just starting to pick up. I'm so worried (after seeing horror stories about roaches) that its going to get worse and I'll have to pull out of my lease. I refuse to live in something 'infested'. Please pray that I've caught this before it was too late. I'm really freaking out here.

I feel for you! This past Spring I had a massive swarm of ANTS in my spotless kitchen!! They were only little black sugar ants but I tell you I was an OCD mess cleaning my kitchen every flippin second. I found out they had built a nest in the inside of my coffee maker! Horrified as I was I picked it up to clean under it and bam they were coming out by the hundreds. I threw it away and got a new one and no more ants!

I am pretty sure the exterminators will be able to keep the roaches under control. I know it feels like you've been invaded by these ugly unwelcome guests, but the bright side is they will be leaving Soon!!

In my old old house (a total pos but this was pre-baby and the rent was cheap) I had an issue with ants that I'll never forget. The plaster was cracked and pain was sort of bubbled up by this one window sill and there were a bunch of ants around it. I started freaking out because I'm ocd and a neat freak and as I was cleaning I kind of poked at the plaster and they SWARMED out of the wall. Hundred of ants pouring out in all directions. I had nightmares for weeks. Just like out of a horror film. I guess I'm worried Ill have that problem with the roaches. So gross. I'd never even seen a roach before in my life! And these are BIG (well, biggest bug Ive ever seen). I had told my bf I found one a couple weeks ago in the dog bowl and he didnt believe me until last night. He killed it and was freaked out, he didn't think I meant they were like, ROCHES ROACHES. big black shiny and gross. uhg.

Yikes! We don't have roaches where I live (too cold) but I would be freaking out too. I think the exterminator will be able to get rid of them though. I have seen on TV where they were able to get rid of some massive infestations.

When my husband was first in the Air Force, we were stationed at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, Mississippi for a training course. At briefing when we arrived, we were told that there was a TERRIBLE problem state-wide with roaches and that we WOULD have them in our homes.

If we came home after dark, the headlights of the car would catch literally thousands of roaches encrusted all over the ground and trees. When we turned on the lights in our little apartment, you could see them scuttle into the walls. When I turned on my gas stove, they would come out of the burners. It was like living in a horror movie. If we "bombed" the place, it just worked for a day or so as they just went to other apartments and came back when they bombed! We tried a building-wide bombing one time and it worked for about two weeks and then it was just as bad as before.

One night, I woke up to a horrible feeling in my right ear..........makes me shudder just writing this..........a small roach had gone inside my ear. I could feel it moving and I panicked big time. I was in the bathroom screaming "Get it out!!" at the top of my lungs at my husband. Goodness knows what the neighbors thought! I'm surprised they didn't call the police!

My husband flushed my ear with water until the little monster drowned and flushed out.

We were there for 6 months while my husband did a training course. I slept with a hat on the whole time....

I cried with joy the day we left.

Lol... Ok I know it isn't funny but since I live in Mississippi I felt it was okay to giggle a little... Right?? ::

We don't have roaches but have lived places where it was an every day fight to keep them gone. And to be sure they stay gone, all food and drinks can be consumed only at the kitchen table. It prevents those sugar ants too.

But for places already infested or in apartments or duplexes next to IDE that are infested, it's impossible. E weather doesn't help any other.

Ya, we have skeeters the size of newborn cats... And grasshoppers (eastern lubber) twice the size of my index fingers, but no roaches .

And ticks ... Lots of ticks.... And heart worms... And flea prevention.....

OMG now I really WILL have nightmares!!!! GROSSSSSSS. I made the appointment to have them come out this Saturday so hopefully I can get rid of them BEFORE it gets to be a problem. That whole scenario is TERRIFYING.

We had some in an apartment we lived in years ago. It was a fairly large building, so they'd come spray and they'd move to the next place for a week.

We got a cat, and they disappeared :confused: Coincidence?

Or, something similar. I have this brand, and they are very sturdy and well sealed. Anything you can't put in one of those (or a can)...refrigerate or freeze. If they have nothing to eat, they are less likely to stick around. Plus, you know they won't be in your food.

On some really rare occasions, we have a similar beast in our house. Found out they are called wood roaches. They look like ****roaches but actually live outdoors, unless one takes a wrong turn and ends up in the house. We've seen maybe 4 in 7 years.

Here in South east Texas, Roaches are a constant battle no matter how clean your house is. Blech!!! I hate them. No other insect grosses me out more.

At my house, DH sprays around the outside perimeter of the house regularly, we keep traps underneath the cabinets where there are sinks and all of the food is in plastic containers. Bread, cookies, pasta. Seriously, everything gets sealed tight in a container and NEVER left in a bag or a box. The little buggers can get in those! And also, we never eat outside of the kitchen.

RIGHT??! I just went to target and bought containers for pasta and cereal. i only buy pretzels in those big plastic containers any way but I'm trying to get my pantry in order ASAP. Cannot imagine what I will do if I open a box of something and find one! Everything in the pantry would go. EVERYTHING.

They've been flying in Florida for many years now. Most of the south has them.
