    Outside game rules

How do you handle when kids decide to not play the game in the middle? Example we are playing duck duck goose and after they get a turn they decide not to play, then another will, until we don't have enough to play. Or with parachute we let them go in the middle to shake around them and then one or two will decide not to play once they go in the middle so it recks it for the rest.

Do I force them to finish the game? Not let them join the next game ( usually they want to play again). How do you handle - ages are 3-5 y olds.

I would warn them if they can't finish the game so that everyone gets a turn, they have to sit out the next game.

If it is always the same child/children I would make those children go last but not after explaining that ALL children that want to play HAVE to wait until ALL the children have "gone in the middle" before they can decide to opt out. Then this way you can decide beforehand whether you will have enough interested children.

If a child still decides during the game that they don't want to participate then I would move on to the next activity and make it a really fun activity. Those that decide to finish the first activity can free play while you and the rest of the children that did want to finish continue on the the next activity.

My DC children all love water play so I make sure to emphasize that our first activity requires everyone to participate and once we are all finished then we can move on to the water table. It's usually the older children that decide to not finish our first game so I remind them that if they quit now they choosing not to play with the water toys, then I let them choose.
