Wouldn't You Want Your Provider to Know Your Child’s Medical Condition?

I have a 10mo dcbaby who is having surgery next month. That is all dcm said! I have hinted around "Oh, I hope he is okay," etc. but she is giving me NO more details. He will be gone for one week, I am not sure what day the surgery is that week. As for the following week I would really like to know what I am dealing with or any precautions I should take, what to look for. I have no idea if it is a simple placement of tubes in his ears (he has had no ear infections to my knowledge) or some major thing. He has a scar on his abdomen that he has had since before I got him and she never mentioned a thing about that either.

    WTHeck?

That is strange! Since he is in your care you need to just straight out ask. It is your business since he is with you part of the time relying on your care. Is he circumcised? Ds couldn't get done at birth due to a webbed penis and we had to do it at 4 mos. Just a thought.

You need to straight up ask what the surgery is for and if there's anything else you need to know pertaining to the child's health.

      That's outrageous!

Also, I'd be inquiring about the scar.

As soon as DCM said child was having surgery I would have asked what for?

I don't feel it is out of line to ask something like that unless the child wasn't enrolled in your program.

          He is circumcised.

Dcm has never mentioned any surgery to me. I noticed the scar but never asked about it, I just figured it was a hernia scar (my ds had that surgery as a baby.) Knowing he is having another surgery I gave it a second look though and it looks to high on the abdomen to be from hernia surgery.

I just can't figure out the secrecy. He's a baby for crying out loud.

I'm just gonna have to out right ask!

I require a complete medical history from every child at enrollment. Any chronic illnesses, allergies, previous surgeries, I even ask if they were full term or preemie, the whole nine yards.

You don't have the medical forms that they fill out prior to enrollment? I would just ask.
