I Found A Fly In The Formula

I used the formula yesterday. Apparently a fly must have flew in and spent the night in the container. When I opened the lid there is was and it flew out. I would throw it away but it is my only can, and I am obviously stuck here at home all day. Do you think I could spoon out the top inch or so and it would be okay?

Flies land on so many things that it would be impossible to NOT eat, touch, feel or come into contact with something a fly was on....kwim?

Honestly, I would probably just spoon off the top little bit and move on.....

Flies are everywhere....not much you can really do about it.

WOWEEEE I haven't seen THIS question on the forum before .

If I had NO OTHER POSSIBLE WAY to get more baby formula, I may would scoop out more than the top inch and use only the part at the very bottom for just enough to get through the day.

Of course, I realize if you could get more, you would absolutely do it and you would never be as,ing this if there were another option.

An emergency is an emergency and certainly an alive house fly in formula is no worse than other options.

To be honest, I would use the formula at the bottom of the can. I'm sure it's no worse than babies mouthing everything.

Not much worse than eating at a picnic...flies land on everything. I wouldn't worry about it personally.

If the fly had just landed on it and flew off I would not worry. My thought was since it spent the night in the container could it have laid eggs? I didn't see anything but I scooped a big layer off the top before I used any.

That has a certain ick factor that I probably wouldn't be able to get over...I'd be trying desperatey to get someone else to bring me a can or using stuff from the verrrrry bottom, and tossing it. yeah we eat stuff they've touched all the time, but it still has an ick factor in baby formula over night...
Hee hee! Look, I have a signature!

Except in a Sci-Fi movie script, I don't think there is any chance the eggs could survive in stomach acid. So, no worries that the little one will sprout wings or multiple eyes.

Google agrees with me, and I was actually disturbed at how often this question apparently pops up.

PS: I was going to insert a picture of Jeff Goldblume from the fly, but they were all so gross, I just couldn't do it. ::

My rational mind tells me this....

Hahahah, I'm wondering if some of you realize that much of the food you eat contains what is deemed an "acceptable" amount of insect parts, mammal feces, maggots, mold, rat hair and other "foreign matter" including cigarette butt fragments!

Peanut butter, spices, canned fruit, frozen veg, chocolate, bottled juices.... the list goes on.

I wouldn't worry about the fly - I too would skim off the top and carry on with my life.

Some things I really wish I didn't know (in theory I guess). I really hate when a restaurant I like pops up on the local news in their "dirty diner" segment ::

I have this strange habit that I've had since I was a kid (can't believe I'm admitting to it :, I have to have my hand (or a blanket) in front of my mouth when I go to sleep because as a kid someone told me you eat like 10 spiders a year in your sleep and it totally freaked me out and stuck with me! Its a total habit now, I've consciously tried to break it but always wake up with a hand in front of my mouth :: Kooky I know!
