Morning Snack Is DONE, Now To Tell...

    the parents

Due to our schedule, the morning snack was just a waste. I have eliminated it completely. happyface I feel like I should mention something to the parents, more to reassure that their kids are still getting complete meals and no one is starving:: Suggestions? Wording? Thanks in advance!

Dear parent due to the short time between breakfast and lunch I will no longer be serving morning snack. If you child arrives after breakfast make sure you have fed them at home. Breakfast is served at 8:00 and lunch is served at 11:30
    It:: will wait

I stopped morning breakfast a LOONNNGGG time ago. Never will go back either. We eat breakfast at 8-8:30 and lunch is served at 12, so there is NO reason to add a snack in between.

            Ditto....

Back when I first started daycare, I served morning snack and the children generally ate their snack well and would not eat their lunch at all, no matter what it was. As soon as I eliminated the morning snack, everyone ate their lunch. I would much rather the children eat well during meals vs snacks because meals tend to be much healthier and more balanced in my opinion.

i was just thinking about this earlier this morning as many times I give my DKC a morning snack and they never eat it. It is such a waste of money. And I hate seeing all that food being thrown into the compost bin

I started doing AM snack when I first started out because it seemed everyone did, and the Food Program encouraged it. A favorite provider blogger posted a while back about the dangers of constant snacking and the bad habits it creates, which got me thinking...

How often do your kids snack? Increasingly, I am coming to the opinion the answer to that question is almost certainly “too often”. Kids snack a lot these days. A lot. More than I did w…

I always did a morning snack.....seemed to be a great part of the a.m. routine.

I have never had such a young group as I do now-all but one in diapers and our routine is so different. I never had more than one or two or NONE in diapers. It's exhausting having non-stop diaper changes!

I am still waiting for licensing ;-( Boo to my state! I have cut out a.m. Snack for now. Once licensed I can't have more than three hours between feeding them. I really like to serve lunch @ noon. I hate having to start lunch at 11:00. I like to be outside til 11:30!

I may move breakfast to 9:00..... That would work I think!

When I had older kids 3-4's they all ate good even with a.m. snack....this young crowd does better at lunch withou a.m. Snack!

Mine have breakfast at 8:00 and lunch at 11:00. They would never need a morning snack and it would definitely interfere with their lunch consumption!

I don't serve AM snack either. Breakfast is 9:00, lunch is 12:00 and snack is 3:30. I open at 7:00 so even the first arrivals only have to wait 2 hours to eat, but my policies say that parents should feed their children a snack if they think they'll be hungry before 9:00.

When I first started out and we had a later lunch (12:00) AM snack was nice. But over time I realized 12:00 was too late for my young group to wait for lunch/nap time and lunch gradually moved earlier. Now my group is a little older, but pickier so they would hold out at meals since they knew they would be eating again in an hour/hour and half anyway I called my food program to ask about rules for eating (not going so many hours without food) and thankfully my state has nothing about that. I find when I preset my group at breakfast "eat up and get your bellies full because our next meal is lunch!" they do well.

This is what I told the parents when I stopped a few years back. Lunch consumption is much better without it. There are a few times that we have one when we have played hard outside since arrival, but I just give them some water and string cheese or something small.

Like everyone else, I eliminated morning snack pretty quickly. No one ate lunch when we served snack, so now I serve breakfast at 9, lunch at 11:30, snack at 3:30. There are exceptions, however, the under 2 crowd still seems to need a little something. I'll give them a few crackers or a handful or yogurt puffs or dry cereal to get them by.

                              I took it out too.

They wouldn't eat lunch and I don't even get reimbursed for it through the food program.

                              I don't miss it.
