    I'd take my kids to one if I ever was able to find one around here. Last one I heard of was a bit over two years ago...and with the incubation my daughter would have gotten it about the time I gave birth to my son so it wasn't a good idea.

    Getting scarcer...and like everything else, who knows what the long-term implications are going to be...
    Hee hee! Look, I have a signature!

      I only close or notify abiut my kids based on my illness policy. I couldn't exclude a child who has been exposed to chicken pox with no symptoms. So say open, keep the kids home and hope for the best!
      The only exception I would make is if I had a child with a weak immune system or something... Then I'd let the parent decide.
      Bottom line- every time you walk out of your house your exposed to something! Can't prevent it all-

That would be worse than shingles. And are they sure that with the immunization you can't get shingles as an adult? Oh and as an adult if your that worried about shingles.. there is an immunization.
        I don't think you can get the shingles shot until age 60 and it only offers a 50 percent chance. It's also expensive.

        What immunity are you speaking of? I had chicken pox twice... once atage 4 and then 15

          I just talked to my dr about the shingle vaccine last week.. shingles are more common after age 50... they recommend the vaccine after age 60 meaning most ins companies will not pay for it until age 60.... no big deal right.... then the nurse said it costs $400 YIKES

          I had a little one here that got chicken pox all of a sudden she could not stand she was rushed to the hospital and they did a spinal tap. VERY PAINFUL I do not remember which was which but she could have been permanently paralyzed luckily that was not the case and the meds worked in less than a day. Scary did not know you could die from Chicken pox.
          It:: will wait

            I was 50 and it rocked my world for six weeks. It is second only to a tooth abscess in level of worst pain ever but the tooth abscess was a day of pain. You should do YouTube searches and listen to real people talking about it. It is so wicked I could never even come up with the words to describe it other than you come to understand how one would choose death over living in that kind of pain daily. The only saving grace is that you know it's going to end in its acute form BUT about 10 percent of people have post herpatic syndrome where they live with the damaged nerve pain for the rest of their lives.

            I'm serious about coming to the mindset that you understand chronic pain people surrendering and choosing death. It's that wicked.

              Both of my children have gotten the vaccine and neither have gotten the chicken pox so far thank goodness. My mom was one of those that send me to my aunts house when my cousins had it and I got chicken pox ... great, now I have to worry about shingles later .

              Question for you Nan, at what point can I get boosters for my kids? My DS is now only 20 months old and had his first round at 12 months and I know he will be good until at least 5 or 6 years old but my DD had her second round at age 5 and I'm wondering if there is a booster after that. She's 8yo now, will be 9 in December.

                Here is a really helpful site about chicken pox and the vaccine.

                The site says 1st dose at 12-15 months and a 2nd dose at 4-6 years

                  Yeah, that's all the info I have ever been able to find on it ... just the two basic shots. I was just wondering if there were any other "boosters" that they and I could take even if we've had the first 2 shots/chicken pox KWIM?
