    2 1/2 Year Old DCB

Comes here early in the morning and sleeps on my couch for a couple hours. He is a big boy and pees thru his diapers at the waist band every morning. He wears 4t clothes and is 36 pounds. I talked to his mom and dd a month ago when he was in size 4 diapers and they moved him up to 5's but they still aren't big enough. How do you politely tell them to buy bigger diapers or something else?I'm tired of the peed clothes, my couch covered in pee and the stink

you just have to tell them..

Looks like johnny must be having a growing spurt and needs a bigger size of diaper..or just tell them what you posted here. I think we need to try a bigger size diaper, he is wetting through the ones that he has now.

I have a kid like that too and the parents send in size 2...she is even bigger than your DCK..

I'm not sure it's simply a problem with diaper size, although that sounds like a contributing factor.

First off, does he arrive with a fresh diaper in or is it one from the night before??

There is no reason that a child should be holding onto enough urine to soak through a diaper in ONE PEE.

If he is, then he's with holding enough urine to be potty trained. Is he showing any interest in that area??

Ive got a child now in the size under what she ideally wears but in ONE pee, she doesn't wet through a diaper. That sounds like either the child is brought in an already full diaper ... Or that the child's bladder is holding urine well enough he should be in underwear. Just my two cents though.

I'm sure its the same diaper from the night before. I've talked about needing a fresh diaper and that doesnt seem to work either. He has no interest whatsoever in potty training. I now have him being able to take off his clothes but he can't dress himself yet. His parents were shocked that he can do that here but they do everything for him at home. The diaper stickies barely hold the diaper on him because hes such a big boy

Then at that point I'd have to out something in your policy about a fresh diaper at drop off. I have that in my policy already. I'd have to put my foot down in that one. It isn't sanitary. And I'd also have to insist that the child isn't placed on my couch.

            Something like this:

" day care mom, dcb has been soiling my couch in the morning times and I'm going to have to insist on him having a fresh diaper every morning at drop off and if he wants to go back to sleep, it will have to be in the appropriate sleeping area because soiling the furniture isn't sanitary"

do not let him sleep on your sofa... make them change the diaper before bringing him. Check it while they are still there and say did you change the diaper?

Insist they bring the right size diaper or refuse care. go buy the right size diaper for him and add the cost to their bill plus extra for your time and gas.
              It:: will wait

Tell the parents they need to bring him in a fresh diaper every day, check it as soon as he comes in, then sit him in the toilet,( he may have had a big bottle before coming in), after that put two diapers on him, and put him to nap on a cot. I would ask the parents what he had to eat/drink in the morning.

Why are you continuing to let him sleep on your sofa????

He needs to sleep on a nap mat which can be easily disinfected. They start at $12. He needs to be changed at arrival. And have larger diapers. You can't blame the parents becuase he is a heavy pee-er and you are letting him sleep on the couch.

I would reinforce the "clean/dry diaper at drop off" policy with mom/dad. Check him as he comes in and have a diaper ready to hand mom/dad if he needs changed. If you don't have that policy, or don't want to mess with having the parents change him, I would change him as soon as the parents leave, before he goes to sleep. I would also move him to a kindermat (plastic, can be sanitized) on the floor. I put a blanket over the mat. If he soaks blankets, send them home to be washed and returned the next day. Also, the parents could try the overnight diapers. They hold much more, and they make them in large sizes. My daughter was potty trained by age 2, but not at night until 3. She has always been large (10 pounds at birth- now 4 foot 4 inches at age 4, not overweight), so I know they make diapers up to size 6 in overnights.

I think THEY should change him before THEY leave if he's "squishy".

The 2 1/2 year old I have is also about that size, and he wears size 6 diapers. He used to soak through diapers constantly until I convinced his family that he did not need sippy-cups of milk in huge quantities (he was getting them at night). Funny, suddenly he became a breakfast lover too. When he first came here, they told me he didn't really "like" breakfast. Well...hmmm...

Thanks I will speak to his mom and dad about having a fresh diaper and getting the over night diapers. His mom always insists on him sleeping on the couch instead of the mat on the floor but I just need a firmer backbone and say no to the couch. Thankfully its leather and washes off.

Um, if you want him to be on the mat, then that should be it! If mom insists he sleep on a couch, then let her take him home!

If mom agrees to weekly professional couch cleaning, I'd let him sleep there.

If not, then on a wipeable, water-proof mat he goes.
