I was wondering if anyone has had experience with this before? I will be moving into a townhome. If I want to become licensed the landlord would actually have to be the one to have the license in his name. I don't think my landlord would go for this... Plus we haven't even moved in yet. Has anybody dealt with this before?

I don't know how things work in MN, but I run a licensed home daycare in a home that I rent in IL. The license is in my name, all I had to do was file a statement from my landlord saying I had permission to use this home for business.- Flag

I'm in MN. Got licensed at one point in a rental home. The license never had to be in the owners name, I just had to give the name and number of the owner to licensing so they could confirm the owner knew I'd be operating out of the home.
You either need their written or verbal authorization, otherwise the process is no different than if the home was yours.
If the homeowner/landlord won't go for giving you the proper authorization then licensing won't even let you start the process.- Flag

Thanks for the info. At this point I think that I will just present it like I would like to be licensed so that I can do small scale babysitting. I would really prefer to do only overnight sitting. Eventually, I would like to operate a preschool in a different location, but in the meantime I would like to make some money.
Thanks again!- Flag
