WTH... Nap Drama Is Killing Me

So these two sibs, DCG started today.... 2 and 3.... mom said they nap daily BUT they fall asleep on the couch watching tv which is unacceptable here... so now here we are at nap time and they are both a ball of screaming tears in protest of nap.... how do you handle this? I feel like they will remain in the nap area until nap time is over... crying or not.... fits do not score points with me..... They are the only two today besides my own so it will not disturb anyone... opinions?

I would just keep at it, repeating that it is quiet nap time and they need to rest. Hopefully it will kick in for them in a couple days.

I would just keep at it. If they are not disturbing anyone, then so what. In the meantime I would make sure to not have any television so they won't even see it as an option. I would try to get them as busy as I could in the AM so I knew they would be tired.

That said, I've terminated clients in the past when their kids would not sleep/rest quietly when the children so obviously needed it. One whole month of screaming fits centered around quiet time. No thanks. Next!

Try audio books. I play audio books in CD during nap. I keep the volume just quiet enough that they have to lay still to hear it.

Most kids fall asleep pretty quickly.

That's been my nap trick for years now. I have 10 kids (ages 1-4) ALL sound asleep within 20 minutes of each other daily.

I put several stories on one CD and leave it play so if I ever have early wakers, they have something to do too until rest time is over.

This is exactly what I do. And have pretty much the same results. Babies & young toddlers have lullabies on, theirs are actually fairly loud so that it covers the sounds coming from the main room or muffles crying if someone happens to wake up before the other babies.

Preschoolers have stories on CD which play on repeat. I bet some of them can recite Corduroy by now

I live on a main road close to both a police station and hospital. We get sirens on a daily basis here. I do white noise. I have an app on my old cell phone and I hook it up to the Bose system in the playroom.

At naptime I crank up the volume to drown out any outside noise. It makes it impossible for the kids to talk to one another since they are seperated by furniture and their whispers can't be heard over the noise. But it is boring enough that they are all asleep within 10 minutes. Also, it covers any naptime wiggling, snoring, or noises that tend to wake others. I start it early here -- even the infants listen to it in their playpens. I have a spare white noise CD I play for them when they nap.

                  Niiiice! That's a great idea!

I have a Pandora box and play classical music + put a load of wet clothes in the dryer for white noise. The Pandora box is killing me lately though because it's wireless and I keep getting booted. The music just randomly stops all.the.time!

Take a deep breath. Routines take more than a few days to get started. A good nap time routine can take more than a week of consistency. The first few days can be very hectic. Stick to the routine and they'll get the point.
