The symptoms don't meet my policy for exclusion, but the excessive amount of extra work does. This child has been here 30 minutes and I've had to quarantine a bunch of toys for cleaning and gone through a dozen tissues and sanitized the child's hands half a dozen times. Every minute or 2, i hear a sneeze and turn to find her covered in snot, her face, hands and arms from wiping it. Would you send home?
Sending A Child Home With Excessive, Clear Snot And Low Grade Fever?

I wouldn't, but I know others who would.
It's really your call.
To me it sounds like textbook allergies which are raging for everyone right now. If I sent everyone here home that was dealing with clear runny nose, red itchy eyes and sneezing I wouldn't have any kiddos left, including my own! I just keep up with the nose wiping because I don't see it as that big of a deal.- Flag

Just when you are over the cold season, the allergies set it. We are forever wiping bottoms & noses. Good luck...- Flag

Absolutely not. JMO.
That would really provoke a parent to send their child home not even sick, and it's not the policy so you wouldn't have a leg to stand on. Sounds like allergies, not contagious.
I would ask to give a small amount of chidlren's benadryl to dry it up and help the allergies.- Flag

I would not send the child home. I would, however, insist the parents take the child to the doctor to get a medical diagnosis along with treatment plan. I would also insist they bring in a couple of boxes of tissues. All in a nice way, of course- Flag

If it were allergies, I would absolutely NOT send them home.
However, I would send home if the low grade fever is over 99F or the nasal discharge is caused by anything other than allergies.
I have a clause in my contract that states that excessive nasal discharge is grounds for being sent home if it is more than I can manage on my own during the day while keeping a sanitary environment for the other kids.
I'd need to have some sort of medical diagnosis stating it is in fact allergies.
I couldn't just go off the parents word.- Flag

I think depending on how long it had been going on would determine if I would send them home or not.
After 5 days, I would ask the parents to get the child get checked out to find out what the cause is.
It is irritating and time consuming....and my hand take a beating...- Flag

I also wouldn't send home. I'd ask mom to call pedi and ask for a dosage or recommendation for an OTC allergy med and sign the form to have it administered. I would then ask they administer the first dose if the child has never taken it. And if after five days there is no improvement I'd ask for a pedi visit to rule out a secondary sinus infection.- Flag
