    Diaper Rash

DCC has very bad diaper rash. They were gone away from care for an extended weekend & came back to care last Wed with it. We were doing Desitin for the rash all week last week. The rash was almost gone by end of day Friday. DCC comes in this morning with what DCD described as "bright stop sign red" rash again. He said that mom packed "brown flour" and I could use that if I wanted. Mom text later to say she didn't know what dad said, but I was to only use the brown flour & no creams, that she did pack A&E & to use it only if it was needed.

I've never heard of using this & DCC bottom is exactly as DCD described. Thoughts??

Personally, I wouldn't put anything on anyone without a permission slip. Especially things NOT designed to go there...kwim?

I do & I am uneasy using it. I literally gasped when I changed her diaper the first time. I showed my DH & he said there's no way you can't use a cream. But I feel like my hands are tied??

If it's that bad, I would seriously require a doctor's visit and a note with a diagnosis and treatment plan for clearing it up.

I know people have all sorts of home remedies they swear by, but is still would make me uncomfortable using something NOT designed for diaper rash and not using the product specifically designed for it...kwim?

That's a hard spot to be put in. You don't want to use the brown flour (I've never heard of using that for diaper rash either) because you don't have written permission but you can't put on diaper rash cream because DCM said not to. They did say to use the A&D if you needed to so ... I would consider this as an "I needed to" situation.

You could also call a pediatrician's office and ask the nurse or doctor what they think about the brown flour. If you have the child's pediatrician information you can call the child ped directly and ask the hypothetical question "I have a child here that is a patient of yours. Hypothetically if the child had severe diaper rash and I was instructed not to use diaper rash cream but told to use brown flour would you recommend that? Will it help the rash?" etc.

I would most likely send home. Since it sounds like this has been going on for awhile, even though it did improve slightly, I would require a dr note stating what exactly should be used to treat this and have the parents sign a permission slip.
It could be more than just a diaper rash.

Thank you all. I am going to talk with DCM at pickup. Let her know that I am not comfortable with this & suggest a visit to their ped.

TBH, DCD didn't really seem on board with it since he said "use it if you want" & "it's something DCM read online".......

I'll reevaluate after talking with DCM at pickup.

Not a joke...tell dcm to look up tea baths for it! I swear by tea bags for diaper rash and often have stuck my kids in a tea bath or just put 3 teabags(strings removed) in their diapers. The urine will activate the tea bags but, I always wet them too. It dries it up over night.

I used to use regular old cornstarch (lightly browned).... foregoing the use of rubber pants when I could (daytime).
