    Sippy Cup?

Have any of you ever had a dcp to take an 8 month old bottle from them and start letting drink from a sippy cup???

Dcm came in this morning saying she was taking the bottle away from the baby, so she has 2 sippy cups with formula in them for her.

It's odd but nowadays nothing surprises me .

The only thing is that I would require that I keep a bottle here anyway until they had 8mo completely cup trained at home. DO the work at home first before you expect me to do it at daycare.

Dcm says she has done great drinking from them over the weekend. I guess I will see how she does today and talk to dcm about bringing her a (new) bottle to keep here.

My own DS stopped taking a bottle around age 6 months.

WIC used to give out sippy cups around that age so I went with it and DS adapted quickly and easily.

Of course, my DS was an odd duck as he also stopped napping around that age, started full out walking at the same age and began using silverware around the same age as well.

He apparently HATED being a baby.

I have had several DCK's that have taken to using a sippy before 12 months too so I guess it isn't out of the normal range.

I'm assuming she must have started her to using it on Saturday because she was still using when she left on Friday.

First let me say I am VERY new to daycare. I didn't do this with my own kids

I started my daycare baby on a sippy at meal times. Only offered one bottle before afternoon nap, not one with morning nap (which is right after AM snack). Daycare baby was 7 mos when I started this. She did great & DCM introduced sippy at home during same time, so I'm sure that helped. Will be removing bottle here (I can't speak for what DCM will do at home--but we have talked & I believe she will be doing same) start July since DCC will be 1 at end of month. Hope that helps

When I first started doing daycare I had 3 infants and they didn't start using a sippy cup until 12 months. I guess that is why I was confused when she said it.::

I give sippies as soon as they start eating at the table (8 months here), but most times the parents have already started them. Some have still kept the bottle until a year and others have successfully drank everything from the sippy before that time. Just depends on the kiddo. I say if they are drinking everything the need from the cup, then give up the bottle!

The sooner a cup is started the easier it is to switch from the bottle. When I was a baby Mothers did not use a sippy cup and started the cup when they started using a high chair. Then slowly more and more of the fluids came from a bottle.

tommy tippy cups came along and made it less messy.
                        It:: will wait

My son uses a sippy cup, but only for snack time and started at about 6 months. Now he just turned 11 and for the most part refuses bottles. I do have a question though.. do you let her drink from it and then put it back in the fridge? I always wondered if that was ok. They say not to give babies their bottles an hour after they start drinking from them, but is it different if it is a sippy and the formula is cold? Not to hihack your thread or anything, but I am just curious. I would like to start phasing out the bottle for my son so I was just wondering how formula in sippy's work if they don't drink it all.

I always started offering a sippy cup with meals when I started table food. My dd was off the bottle around 8-9 months, simply because she did so well with a sippy, I didn't see the point of keeping bottles. I used the same rules with breastmilk in the bottle/sippy cup. (DD LOVED cold breastmilk, ew!)

I think it's better than 2yo's still carrying bottles around!
