    NW Pennsylvania Daycares

Wondering if any of you have had horrible experiences with an inspector? We've had our current one for two years now, and she's absolutely awful! She's come to our facility three times in less than four months, and cites us for the most ridiculous "offenses." I'd like to compare notes with anyone else who's been bullied and harassed by an inspector. (Her initials are JP).

    Thanks!

      Have you tried to appeal?

At my school the director of the preschool once got a citation for putting cheese in the freezer (because that is how they got it) she appealed it and they approved it.

My inspector didn't show up for 4 years and cited minor "violations" on my record. I looked it up because a friend said her license was inaccurate also, and found these 'violations' such as not having a gate, not having plug covers, etc as if she had even been in the house!!! I have not seen this woman now since 2008 and CLOSED my daycare. My license is still active. I closed LAST YEAR, and in "January 2013" she supposedly did my inspection. Um NO. I work and NOT at home.

Here if there's an inspection I have to sign agreeing that the inspects occurred. If the inspector can't come up with signed inspections, then I'd have someone hide.

            inspectors (more info)

            I guess I should elaborate:

Our inspector has shown up three times in the last four months. She did a surprise inspection a few months ago, and was hiding around the doorway, out of our sight, for who knows how long before she made her presence known.
She then cited us for "exceeding the room's capacity" (by one child), as we had JUST gathered the children together long enough to go potty and help with hand-washing before going to lunch.

During her most recent ambush (last week), she has informed us that our sleeping room is too dark, stating, "I can't see the children." Well, anyone else who's in the room during nap time can see the children just fine. That's how we know if someone's sitting up on their cot, or playing. She made the staff ladies remove the blinds from our windows, and now it's too bright in the room for the children to sleep.

She also said that we are to have a water source in the sleeping room for diaper changes, so that we don't have to leave the room. She made the facility director load two infants into a stroller and wheel them to the bathroom (waking one of them from her nap), because the other infant needed a diaper change.

She has been to our facility a total of six times since last Spring, and none of these issues were ever mentioned before.

I understand that when she finds things that are true safety concerns or glaring violations of the regulations, yes, by all means, cite us. Most of her complaints seem petty and asinine. None of her visits have been the result of a parent complaint; she is just somewhat new to her position and on some sort of power trip. My understanding is that there are complaints about her everywhere she goes.

I originally posted because I was curious if other daycares have had this kind of experience with an unreasonable inspector.
I really want to talk to her supervisor, mostly to question her tactics, but my director doesn't want me to, for fear of retaliation.
I will say that, in our 8 years of operation, we have never had the complaints/repeat visits from an inspector that we have with this new one...and our former inspector was very much by the books and no-nonsense...but she was at least reasonable.

This new inspector seems to want us to remodel the entire facility to suit her desires...which is not feasible.

Any thoughts/advice? I personally think that her supervisor needs to know about her behavior. What would you ladies do in this situation?

Thanks for all the replies! Your feedback is very helpful!!!
