From the fill-the-spot and less-lost-income point of view I'd rather have 4 weeks, but emotionally when a family gives notice the last two weeks seem too long - Sometimes I'd rather just get it over with quickly, like pulling off a band-aid.
Exactly! My stable families and kids are here forever. My unstable ones, gee generally county paid, come and go and those I wish I could hold them to the 2 weeks. But, I only take one county family at a time. Mostly I have stable kidos though.

My handbook is just like the Winchester Mystery House only instead of the house growing it's my handbook which grows.
      My handbook says:
      Withdrawing

A 2 week written notice is required PER child when ending child care services.

But when I changed the rule/policy, I wrote up a memo to all current parents saying:

"Due to the amount of time it takes to interview, enroll and integrate a new child into my program I require a two week notice per child for anyone wishing to withdraw from the program. For example if you have 2 children, you will need to provide a 4 week notice when wishing to end our child care services agreement."

So anyone new coming in just reads the rule in my handbook. I felt the need to explain to my current families though because it effected what they had already agreed to.

NO ONE complained and no one has ever had an issue with the rule.

4 weeks written notice per child. Notice is to be submitted in writing on the child's last day of attendance for the week. Because my time off is all paid and accrued, I calculate the total balance for the final weeks and subtract any deposit and give them an invoice within a couple days of receiving notice. They are then responsible for paying the full invoice amount the next Friday.
