New little boy started today, he's 3 but has a few delays. Poor little guy has been in and out of the foster system and just had a rough start in life. Grandma dropped off and told me his grandfather would be picking up. A couple times dcb asked for grandma I reminded that grandpa would be here to get him. As it was nearing pickup time I again explained grandpa would be here soon to get him. Dcb got very upset but couldn't tell me why. Then grandfather came in, dcb went right to him and immediately calmed down. He pats grandfather on the leg and says hi poppy. Turns out grandpa passed away a few months back and he calls this grandfather poppy. I was unknowingly upsetting the little guy by telling him his dead grandpa was coming to get him. I've called and checked on him and poppy says he's fine and looking forward to coming back here tomorrow.
