Adding Occasional Drop In Day To Enrolled Family

I have a mother who is asking to add a day. Child comes 3 days, for a couple random weeks she will come 4 days. What do you charge to do this? I told her the regular daily rate in addition to what she pays for tuition. I'm now regretting this, as its in the contract that addition days are at the drop in rate which figures out to double the hourly rate of my daily rate. Also the extra day is on my day off. I've already agreed to do one specific day for the daily rate. Do I tell her that any extra day beyond that is at the drop in rate, because daily rates are lower because you own the spot and pay it 52 weeks a year, but not only that, I am also opening on my day off to care for only one child? Any advice? How do you ladies handle adding a random day for an established family?

"I made a mistake and quoted you my daily rate, rather than my drop-in rate which is what I SHOULD charge you, and what the contract states that I WILL charge you. For these weeks (insert dates that you agreed to open your business for this family), I will honor the price I gave you of $$$. In the future, I will charge my drop-in rate of $$$ to open my business for you on my day off".

And I think you should honor that rate for the amount of time you agreed to. If there was no agreed to date to stop it, I suggest 30-days notice of the rate change.

I would never take a child on my day off.

As for part time families that want to add a day, I do it like this

If they normally attend 3 days per week and need to add an additional day, I charge them the regular daily rate (in ADDITION to their normal 3 days) up to 3 times per year.

If they attend 4 days per week regularly, I allow them to add an additional day at the daily rate up to 4 times per year.

If they need to add additional days more than their allotted amount, the rate is the drop in rate.

I also only allow additional days IF it works out in MY schedule and falls on a day I am already working and have other children.

I wouldn't have taken it to begin with, if it was on my day off.

For existing families, my contract/ parent handbook reads that if they need an additional day, it is billed at their regular daily rate. For instance, my ft is $35/day, 4 days is $40/day, 3 days is $45/day and 2 days is $50/day.

If a child attending 4 days/week wanted to add a 5th day, their rate for that week would be $160+40=$200

If a child attending 3 days/week wanted to add a 4th day as drop in, their rate for that week would be $135+45= $180.

If a child attending 2 days/week wanted to add a 3rd day, their rate for that week would be $100+50=$150

That way it isn't my drop in rate, so those who attend 3+ days are getting a 'break', but it is certainly worth my while. This is also why I LOVE PT kids, especially when they have flexible scheduling or two kids fills a FT space, I end up making significantly more money.

I wouldn't have done it- My time has to matter at some point. If I had no kids on that day I wouldn't want to open for just one child. I would ask the parents to find alternative care for that one day because I was not open.

If I did open.. it would be at a higher rate then my normal rate, or move over to a full time rate. 4 days is almost five and part time for me is three days or less- I want to make this worth it to me for doing. I am not in this business to cater to clients needs. I am in this to be established and make money for my family. I pick and I choose. I would really want to help someone else out to take this on. My days off are precious to me. It is recoup, regenerate, rest time for me so that I can be a better provider.

          best-
