    Ugh-Screwed Up Yesterday :(

It was one of those days. Kids constantly fighting, getting in trouble, kicking, hitting...I'm sure there were good moments but I fail to recall them at the moment. Anyways, we were playing outside and 5 yo dcb takes a spill from a climber, bangs his head and hurts his ear and shoulder. I check him all out, no bumps, he cries but seems fine before he goes home.

I'm filling out the remainder of the daily notes and a different dcb decides to put me thru hell at the last minute. I was completely distracted from writing the injury on dcb's note or from mentioning it to his mom. When she showed up for pick-up I was dealing with the other dcb and it completely slipped my mind.
I never thought about it again until I woke up last night and
remembered I never said anything! Ok, well I'll talk to dcm when she drops him off this a.m.

Dcd dropped off the sister and said A was sick, upset stomach. So I called the mom to explain what happened, apologized, and she said A had told her all about it but she had never put the two together about a possible concussion. She said aside from his upset stomach and a sore shoulder he seemed to be okay but would check with the doctor to make sure.

I felt horrible about the whole thing but I'm kicking myself for not remembering to talk to her when she picked him up yesterday. Not very professional of me.

Don't beat yourself up about it! It happens! I've done the same thing a time or two, it's not an excuse, but you do get busy and sometimes there are a million things going on and if the child seems ok and goes about playing and doesn't mention being hurt again, it's easy to forget about it at the time. At least you called and told the mom about it, you could have just "forgot" to do so.

You're human and it slipped your mind. It's not as though you intentionally said nothing to dcm. That would have been unprofessional.

You called dcm as soon as you were able and apologized which was professional. Try not to beat yourself up over it. I hope he's feeling better soon.

These things happen to the best of us - don't be too hard on yourself.

He came to pick up his sister with his mom and was just fine. Phew! He only threw up that once and the doctor told dcm if he wasn't complaining of a headache or hard to rouse from sleep don't worry about it. He played t-ball after daycare yesterday too so maybe the long day just got to him.

I think I'm going to start carrying paper and pen with me everywhere just in case something happens. I can't rely on my memory.
