We did personalized hammers. I bought wood-handled hammers for under $4 each, sanded the finish off them, then had the children paint the handles with acrylic paints. Tomorrow I'm painting "#1 Dad" and the child's name with "2013" on them then spraying with clear coat.
Last year they painted patio blocks with acrylic paints. Both easy peasy and relatively cheap!
My 2 yo is going to glue popsicle sticks around the sides of a tin can. Then I'm going to put paint on her hand and have her grasp the can, hopefully leaving a clear hand print. I only have colored popsicle sticks at the moment, so I won't have her paint it. But, if I had the manila colored sticks, I would have her do some painting on the sides before I did the hand print. I picked up some baseball stickers and I'll let her stick a few on there instead. She loves stickers! Then I'll write Happy Father's Day 2013 and her name.
The part time baby dabbed paint on a rock (from my driveway) and I wrote Dad Rocks and the date.
Other baby is doing a footprint on a round wooden plaque from WM that I painted to look like a baseball. Two of the kids are siblings, that's why they are doing different things.
I am having the kids color/paint a sheet of paper. I will be tracing their hand on a patterned paper, and folding it into the sign for "I love you" and then writing some sort of message on their, and laminating it.
We did these last year, and they turned out great !
I am having the kids make handmade drink coasters. I bought small porcelain tiles...about .16 each at Home Depot. I had the kids to a handprint on each one and lacquered it so that it would be waterproofed. I also made a tile with the phrase, "any man can be a father. It takes someone special to be a dad." Happy Father's Day and put their child's name and date. So far, they look really cute! Note: they need 24 hours to cure once the spray lacquer is applied.
We did shrinky dink necklaces for mother's day - so for father's day we are doing shrinky dink keychains.
I am tracing their hands onto the plastic, then dictate a short message and they are writing their names on it (or I will for the little ones). Then they get to color it in. I will cut them out and hole punch them and after they are shrunk they will be hand-shaped little keychains!
For this Father's Day, we did "Just Like Daddy" pictures. We put together a couple different adult-sized outfits (most of which I borrowed from my husband and dad's closets) and let each DCK choose which one to wear. Then we took their picture in front of a cardboard that had the words "Just Like Daddy" above their heads. They will be printed out and put into acrylic frames.
The outfits we used were:
Dressed up- A suit jacked (that was a kid size, but big on my toddlers), tie, and fancy hat.
Golfer- polo shirt and a golf club
Construction- orange t-shirt, hard hat, and hammer
Football fan/player- local team jersey (bigger kid sized one) and a football
You could use any outfit- or since most of you have fewer kids, you could be specific to each dad's job. We have 17 on our attendance (not all full time) so that wasn't really an option.
I bought a couple class candy/cookie jars from Walmart, and the kids painted with paint on them. Then we baked some cookies to put inside. I also came up with this poem:
I think you're pretty cool, Dad
I think you're pretty neat
So I made this cookie jar for you
And inside, a special treat.
I mixed in a lot of love
and baked it in the heat
I hope you know I love you Dad
And I Hope you're Father's Day is sweet.
And I printed that out on cardstock, and tied it around the rim of the cookie jar with some yarn.
Do most of you do Fathers Day gifts? I feel bad cuz I did Mothers Day, but today's my last day with the kids and I obviously ran out of time for shopping . I can't get my photo printer to work, otherwise I'd do a DAD photo frame- bit maybe I can pick up 1 hr pictures quick when I'm out this morning to take my DD to her dance class! Yay, gotta love coming up with an idea mid post
We did a big cardboard hand. You cut out a big hand and cover with felt, fabric or even just paint. Then you trace the little one's hand and glue in the middle of the large hand. You can then put a piece of non-slip backing on the back and it makes a little catch all for Dad's stuff. He can put it on his bedside table and drop all his change, keys, etc. on it at the end of the day. You just write ( Dad's Helping Hand) on it.
Good luck. Check out pinterest for cool quick ideas too. I go there a lot when I need last minute inspiration
I did shrinky dink (generic version, from amazon ... super cheap) keychains and they've turned out SO CUTE! The children also assisted me in filling out a "questionairre" about Dad. I'm sure some of them will be thrilled that their children think they are 100, like feeding them oranges, and their favorite place to go is work. ::
Reese's pieces and retro glass soda bottles labeled with
"I love you to pieces" and "You're the best, POP!"
we did the reeses pieces last year! I felt bad though cause it really was just something I threw together. I have to do something TODAY and I have no clue what!!!
My own daughter is doing a Father's day fill in the blank type survey and putting her footprint on a poem written on scrapbook paper. These ideas are on http://pinterest.com/judeandjenn/
My husband is also getting a weed eater, not the most exciting gift, but a much needed one
