    Power Outage

If you lost power due to a storm overnight, would you still open in the morning if it was a mass power outage for many areas?

We are looking at getting large storms tonight with a large possibility of tornados. So much so that they sent people home early from many employers today to buckle down.

My biggest problem is lunch. I realize I can do sandwhiches but I'm afriad to get in and out of the fridge and losing more food than I need to.

I lived on a water channel once and when the ice thawed in the spring and flooded up into the yard we lost power for a couple of days. I stayed open because the weather was sunny, we had a lot of windows and it was easy to navigate in the house even without lights.

It all depends on how many kids you have though and what you're comfortable with.

Licensing said it was my choice and it ended up not being a big deal.

I told my parents barring an absolute emergency, even without power, I would take their kids tomorrow.
Lunch, if we loose power I will pull my ice and pull milk etc into a cooler and use that for lunch.
        Praying for everyone's safety tonight!

In my state we cannot open unless we have power, and running water. It's against the regulations to be open for us. I'm hoping it won't be too bad...

I can open without power but not without water, so as long as we have water I'd open. In MI we were without power for 4 days but I had a gas stove so I could cook and heat water. Here I have electric so we're SOL when the power is out.

I am pretty sure it is the same in my state.

I do not open without power. I require payment anyway, as it is out of my control. My fire alarms are all hard wired into my home, so without power I do not feel safe operating. I also just feel that without power, I am too stressed maintaining my home and food and stuff to give children adequate attention. We usually only lose it in the winter, so heat is a concern as well.

It is the same in NY. No power, no opening for me.

I lost power 4 times for MINOR storms in a 6 month period and had to close unexpectedly/not open until power was restored. We installed a generator because of it, so now that is never an issue. Not sure if that's good or not, now even in the worst weather imaginable I get kids even when the parents stay home because I have power and they don't.

I must close if the power outage is longer than 2 hours.

In the winter months, I am required to close within the hour due to heating issues. The temp inside can drop rather quickly when outside temps are already in the negatives.

Our regulations state that the house can't be over or under a certain temperature. I don't think we are allowed to open without electricity. After a hurricane years ago, they even made a trip out to each home to make sure it was safe. I think they included electricity in it. Can't remember and too lazy to look it up right now.
