    Tattling

Background: I have a 9 year old child who has recently been diagnosed as on the spectrum (the child does have a specific dx). Incredibly smart (math, science, spelling, reading are all on a 5th-6th grade level) but socially delayed. Social/emotional level of a 5- 6 year old, comprehension level of a 3-4 year old.

This child is always telling me what so & so is doing. I guess it's not so much tattling since the child isn't trying to get others in trouble, as much as it's a play by play aaaaall day long. I'm struggling with what to do.

It gets under my skin sometimes bc every time I turn around I hear "hey miss ***, dcb is chewing on the red rubbery toy, dcg is peeing in the toilet, other dcg is building with the foam blocks and has 2 squares stacked, just letting you know."

I made the mistake, before dx, of telling this child that I did not need them to tell me what everybody is doing. Being a literal thinker, the child now tells me what one particular dck is doing....since it's not everybody & I said everybody.

Anyways - wwyd? How would you handle this?
