I am DEFINITELY taking the 5th off! I need a break. Most employers around here are closed the 5th, anyway. I have 2 kids whose parents have to work that day, and I am not staying open just for them.

Yep, I'm off the 4th as a paid hiliday and already sent a letter home that I will most likely close the 5th as well and that if I do close, it is unpaid. I just need the break

I always take the 4th/5th off as a paid holiday. So happy it's falling on a Thurs/Fri. this year.

Definitely closing the 5th! I didn't last year and oh my, don't want to make that mistake again. The family that is still with me that was with me then, was out until almost 1am-no thanks!

I'm closed, paid, on the 4th. But seeing as how I'll just have come back from my 2 week vacation I didn't feel like it would be fair to be closed Friday. I'm open but hopefully most kids won't be coming that day

I'm in the same boat. Plus, the 4th & 5th are generally really easy days for me. Last year I had more than half of my kids out on the 4th and then they were all beat the next day

I'm just taking the 4th, unless my family who is leaving decides to make the 3rd their last day instead of the 5th. I normally would've taken both off, but with graduations and such I was off 3 Fridays in May and had to close early yesterday for a Dr appointment so I didn't want to add any extra days right now.

as a parent..i think it's a little on the selfish side if you KNOW your daycare kids' parents' have to work the 5th,but you want to close just because you'll only have 1 or 2 kids... some parents work in the medical field or at grocery stores etc. and they will be open even on the 4th...just something to think about.... i, being the ONLY family member within 200 miles of me, find it extremely difficult and a burden for me to find backup care for that day, pay my original daycare, AND pay the back up..just my opinion..not trying to put anyone down..i get we all need a break sometimes

Not trying to fight, but can you see the hypocrisy in your statement? They are your kids.

I make arrangements for my school aged kids so I can concentrate on my clients kids quite often. Every so often, they have to do the same for mine.

If you are not given adequate notice, well that is another topic entirely.

When I do my calendar for the year to send home to parents I look for holidays that fall on odd days like that. I give parents a whole year (or at least months) in advance to prepare and ask off.

I took off 4th of July as a paid holiday and the 5th as paid personal day. They have known about it since last August.happyface I cant wait!
