DCM calls her son a turd anytime he's being somewhat mischievous/ornery or engaging in genuinely bad behaviour. Today, after I told her the stuff he was doing that was not allowed, (that's an ongoing thing) she called him a turd, somewhat laissez-faire. (I'm assuming this is her 'discipline.' Letting him see her vaguely disapproving by calling him a name & then carrying on w/o actually enforcing any sort of discipline/ teaching moment.) So he calls it back to her, and back & forth, as they giggle. Yeah, real effective. My problem is a. She's technically calling her son a piece of crap. b. I don't want the other kids, my own included to pick this up. c. It seems like she could care less about my rules by treating them so carelessly. What would you do/say to her/ I don't want to be confrontational, but it makes me cringe when I hear her call him that. If it matters, he is 3, my son is 2, and then I have 2 DCGs, 14 mos, & 2 mos. If his behavior warrants it, write up a behavior correction plan and have consequences. -
"Hey mom, I gotta let you know, another child heard that word you use on your son, you know, T U R D (spell it out). That child repeated that word. I can't have that word said here. Don't say that here. Thanks!" with a big 'ol
on your face.

I had a parent who called their child a turd and 'tard and another name I can't remember now. It was all done affectionately but once the child started calling the other children names I had to talk to the parents and ask them to let their child know that those were "family names" that should only be used with family.Comment
