    car seats

I presently have several families(of course) but in this one case there are three households(fam 1- 2dcgs ,fam2-1 dcg, grandparents) plus two other fams. With the interrelated first three I sometimes do not know who will pick up all three dcg....fam #1 and the grands both have plenty of carseats/boosters....the fam# 2(only child) will sometimes come for all three dcg but only have ONE carseat....they at least give it to the smallest(their neice) but the others rarely have more than the reg. seatbelt. Yesterday I helped put the smallest into the carseat.... and let them leave. I let Mom #1 know that the bro. needs to get more carseats--his premise I'm only going down the street to either his sisters or the grands.....I let Mom#1 know this am that if I thought a cop could catch him I'd be on the phone to be on the lookout when this guy left. Now I know that if I'm aware of this again I WILL be telling this Dad and sometimes his wife that they can make more trips to and from but unless there are enough seats I'm not letting any more kids leave here without their own seat/booster-----I do not always have the leeway to go help load kids so I wouldn't always know what is in their vehicle. I know I've been wrong to have let this happen the few times it has---so it will not be happening anymore. What would any of you have done? I really hadn't been aware that this was the case as much as it apparently has so we'll see how they take the info today at pickup. thanks for listening/reading (haha) I'm new to posting but have been reading this forum since I found it and been doing DC for 26 yrs( to be with my own then----sure couldn't be that class mom or helper like I hoped but I have enriched almost 80 kids now.)

As a mandated reporter it is your duty to report them if you are ever aware of the fact that they do not have a car seat for EACH child.

Doesn't matter if they are going 100 miles or 1 block.

I would make sure you let them know that you have NO choice but to report them and that it would be in their best interests to make sure that car seats are ALWAYS available for each child required to have one.

And do NOT loan your car seats to them because IF something happens the liability can come back and bite your butt. I would and have printed out the state law about car seats and children AND the info about being a mandated reporter to give them at pickup.
        I see little people.
