    Radon???

Any one have their home tested for Radon?
    How do you test?
Wondering what level requires you have a system put in and if you had one put in, how much did it cost?
This a new DCFS requirement for us in Illinois.
    Thanks!

You can either contact a company to do it for you or you can buy a radon test kit at most home improvement stores and do it yourself. Your state will tell you what level you need to be at or under.

We were required to have one by a home inspector when we sold our house. They set it in your lower level somewhere around chest height and leave it for 24-48 hours, remove it and have it tested. You cannot open the windows during that time (although our realtor told to us open the windows!)

I think our unit was around $3000 to put in. We had a company come out and test but I can't remember that amount. I only remember the big number to put it in.

I had to test for licensing. The first test was high but the second was low so they average it out and I didn't need a remediation system. Radon can cause ling cancer so if it stayed high I would have had to put a system in. I actually keep meaning to retest because of the first result.

If you are a home daycare in Illinois you can use the DIY test kits sold in hardware stores. If you are a center it has to be done by a professional. The level for required remediation is 4.0 pci/l. If you have a large or very divided space in your lower level you'll need more than one kit.

I was quoted anywhere from 800 to 3,000 dollars for a remediation system, but we came in under the 4.0 level.
