I'm On The Other Side Of Money Issue This Time..

I picked up my dd from preschool today and they inform me that it's the last day of preschool. This preschool is at a local YMCA, so they have a daycare there too.
Um, ok??? They previously told me they follow the local school calendar. Local school ends on the 24th.
If I had known her last day of school was today I would have given proper notice for last week to be her last day. Instead I had to pay for a WHOLE MONTH for her to go JUST TODAY? WTF? I'm seriously mad. I am VERY strict in my daycare for paying 52 weeks a year regardless of attendance, and I'm finding this to be ridiculous.
I had to of missed a notice or something perhaps? I really had NO IDEA it would end the first week in June. I would never had paid the whole month to go one day.

Sounds like a set-up, because why would the last day be on a Monday??

I bet other parents were probably just as shocked as you were.

That kind of notice should have gone out more than once and then be posted on the door or somewhere. That's what is expected of us.

I would argue THAT one- they are charging a full month for 1 working day? I'm sure it won't go a positive way for you, but it never hurts to attempt- do you have anything in writing that said they went with the school calendar? That stinks

I'm going to call. I just feel awkward

I don't ever go into the classroom/building. Because of the daycare kids I call and they walk her outside. I bet that's where the notices are. They should have verbally told me before today.

Their handbook states they follow the town's school calendar.

If preschool only goes until Wednesday, why would they bill you for an entire month?

If they assumed you would be using the child care, don't you have to fill out anything additional or different for that part of it?

I would think that they would have informed you that the costs for June's preschool is $xx.xx. Of course discounted to accommodate the fact that you aren't getting a full months worth of preschool.

Have you called them for clarification at all?

I picked her up. Told them she would be out on Wed. for DR appt.
They said preschool is over this week. See you Friday for the family picnic. and I was given a bill for the entire month, it's even labeled 6/01-6/30.

No other discussions of any kind ever took place. I have left a message with the billing department. I doubt they will do anything for me. I figure it's worth asking.
I really did not know and unless they sent home a notice that I missed, there is no way I would have known.

If their handbook states they follow the school calendar, that's what ou have in writing and I'd argue that that's all you have to go by, and no one told you the change at drop off or pick ups! How frustrating!

That's really ridiculous! I hope you get some satisfactory answers!

My only thought is that maybe the fee schedule was for x weeks of school, and the payments spread out over y months...so you pay the same each month? Kind of like if we want to make teachers pay more/week in exchange for not paying over the summer, so we just divide the payment differently?
Hee hee! Look, I have a signature!

They cannot charge you if they are not in business for the entire month. They can only charge you for the days they are in service. UNLESS they have a vacation policy, which I highly doubt a non-profit organization would have.

oooohhh. I wonder if that's the case. Could be.

You know what, a light bulb just went off in my head. You're right. The preschool is a yearly tuition amount that they divide over 10 months. But I still do not understand why they ended two weeks earlier then the school district.
