    This one I have to say is your fault. They gave you notice and YOU said I might need you to leave 2 weeks early... the might did not sink in They heard leave two week early and they made those plans.

    Now you need them to stay.. they do not need to give notice again. unfortunately you are out 2 weeks pay. You would have as much luck collecting that 2 weeks from them after you said you needed them to leave 2 weeks early as you would collecting it from the new family for not starting when you needed them to start in June.
    It:: will wait

      I understand what you say but don't agree because when I said might we agreed to wait until I knew for sure. When I knew, we talked again and we said it was still on until mid June and then if I don't ask for payment yesterday i would not even know that next week is their last.

      For me, I require 4 weeks notice, and then the deposit goes towards the last 2 (as long as they give appropriate notice) That way I have a warning before they use the deposit, and time to find new clients. Hope that answers your question!
      Thanks, I think I will do this, I already gave the new family that is starting in July a copy of my contract, she has not signed it yet. Do you think it will look wrong if I tell her I need to change that part? I mean adding 4 weeks instead of 2. Bright side, this has been a learning experience.

        You could always make a new contract, and explain that the deposit remains the same, that you are just changing from 2 to 4 weeks notice. I would just add, due to a prior problem with the policy, you have just recently decided to change it. Since it doesn't require any more money upfront, I'd hope the family would understand and wouldn't have a problem with it!

          If this is the same family that you misquoted the rate & then contacted to change, then I would avoid making any further changes at this point. Maybe 6 months or a year from now have a handbook update. Keep track of all the changes you want to make between now & then.

          Good luck!

            Notice is required in WRITING and must be submitted on the child's last day of attendance for the week. If they didn't give you written notice last week, they owe you this week. They can use the next 2 weeks as their deposit. I would specifically tell them that they are required to provide written notification indicating WHEN the child's last day is!

              That's what I thought, but to late now I guess.

              Anyways, they owe me a late fee and I asked for it today the answer was "But there was a bunch of people here that day" Meaning other parents.

              It is and I thought about it, so I guess I will just mention it to them, about giving the notice last day of attendance before the 2 weeks.
