Check Out The Sandbox My Hubby Built!

My husband built this awesome sandbox for our son and the future daycare kids. The lid slides open and turns into two benches that run along the length of the sandbox. My son spent an hour playing in there yesterday! It's the first component to our backyard make-over... we literally have a disaster of a backyard (thanks, previous homeowners) and we are working to get things ready for when we open the daycare.

Just thought I'd share in case anyone else is handy or has a handy husband. He said that is was really easy to make. We followed a tutorial from Pinterest.

Nice!!! Love that it has benches.

Ours has a rail around the rim that kids use for walking along, like a balance beam.

We are going to be building a new one this summer as my old one needs to be replaced and moved and DH wants to do benches along one side, but I've been watching my kiddos outside and how they play and I don't think they could or would give up the ability to walk around the perimeter.

Now if I could just find a solution for the neighbor lady's cat....who thinks my sandbox is a giant litter box....just for him..

    Awesome job by your DH!!!

Great job! Did he put a bottom on it? My hubby built me a nice sandbox a few years ago but it doesn't have a bottom (he stapled that black weed blocker paper onto the bottom but it has been ripped from the kids digging in it) and the ants have taken it over! I would like to empty it, add a good bottom and start over with fresh sand. The kids haven't been able to use it the last 2 seasons because they are waiting for me to clean it out. Part of me wants to get rid of it, but they really enjoy using it when they are able to. The benches are nice. We have corner seats on ours that work well for sitting. You are lucky to have such a handy hubby. Mine tries and means well, but things don't always turn out the way they should ::

He put down the black paper, then some wire mesh, and then the sand. I hope it holds up!

I love it. I keep trying to find somewhere in my shrinking back yard to put a sandbox.

Gorgeous! I'm right there with you w/ previous home owners ruining the yard. The former tenants in our house let their friends drive thru the yard. There was a mud swath. We've lived her 1.5 yrs, planted grass 3 times, & it's mostly filled in now. For a while, anytime it rained, it would bring up chunks of glass and other fun debris children are totally safe to play around.

I actually am a handy husband... and am thinking if my wife sees this I will be building one. We have a small sandbox now, but a larger model would be nice for next year.

                              LOVE it!

We have the black mesh in the bottom of our sandbox and it's been fine for years and years. I taught the children that when they reached the black they had to stop digging and fill in the hole.

I've got to get a new tarp for ours though; we've got roving cats too.
