My New Naptime Routine!! Love it!

I have 6 total kids (2 are my own). One 12 month old and then 5 that are 3 and 4. They are all great sleepers and sleep 3 hrs each day...once they fall asleep.

At first everyone was going to sleep great but the last couple of weeks I feel like I have to go into their nap room 50 times to get people back on their mats, ask them to quiet down, etc.

The last 2 days instead of going back and forth I just stayed. I walked in, had everyone get on their mat, sat down in the middle of the room and just patted each kid for a few minutes and then moved onto the next. Both yesterday and today they were all asleep within 10 minutes of me coming in the room. Hallelujah!!

I was having so much trouble with my daughter (3) because she was being so loud when she would "read" her books on her mat and she would get the other kids all worked up and it would be nuts in there. So the last 2 days I've started by laying with her and patting her first...she's out. Once she's out the rest quickly follow.

    Happy Friday for me!!

how nice I changed my nap time routine as well and put the ones who don't sleep that long in one room and the others who nap well downstairs and it worked out fine and when it happens on a Friday even better

UGH. I have too many non-sleepers. I do the patting backs thing too, but they will NOT sleep. I could stay in there for an hour! I am sooooooo tired of not getting a break.

Have you tried reading a chapter book to them as they are a lying down? It works great for me if a couple need continual reminders. I have them all in the same room so it's easy to sit and read to all them. Then I can remind them at the first sound of extra noise too rather than every few minutes.

My nap routine is everyone grabs a book (I have marked books with a star sticker covered in tape so that they know which ones are appropriate for nap and I'm not reading super long books nor the super short ones) as I lay out mats.
They all go to their mats and look at their books as I read a story from a day by day story book or some poems from a poem book.
Then I put the baby down as he sleeps in a different room.
I return and one by one I read to each kid the book they chose.
I have soft jazz playing in the background the whole time.
After I finish reading all the books I darken the room and turn up the music a little bit to drown out any other noises.
I have only one who naps here inconsistently that has a hard time going to sleep without a back rub or the chapter book.
