You Can Tell It's Monday...

No, wait...it's not Monday, but it sure feels like it.

Dcm brought 2.5 yo dcb in this morning with underwear. HE IS NOT POTTY TRAINED!!! No where close to even thinking about it.

Dcb runs around his own home naked and WHEN he feels like it he will go to the potty, but here, I can't even get him to sit on the potty without screaming and crying. He has NEVER even made an attempt at going, never even made an attempt at saying anything about going potty.

Dcm told me he won't poop in the potty at home though.


I REFUSE to put this child into underwear until he starts showing more interest in using a toilet than what he does. I REFUSE to allow him to run around naked in order for him to 'go on his own' as his mom put it.

This family started with me last October and when he turned 2 in November dcm told me she wanted to start potty training him. I told her then that I didn't feel he was ready because he was not verbal.

They left in February when a friend moved in with them and she started caring for him. Then when she got a job 4 weeks ago, they started back here. I gave her a new handbook which outlined my potty training technique in a more detailed manner...which states they have to be accident free for 2 weeks at home, and then for 2 weeks here before they are allowed to wear underwear.

Don't these people EVER read the handbooks?????

YIKES!!! I always joke and say " please read the handbook closely, especially since I killed a tree to print it and put it in a cute whittle folder" ....they usually giggle and SWEAR they will read it. YEAH RIGHT

If you didn't notice the underwear until he was already accepted into your care, take them off now, place them in a plastic bag, print off the portion of your handbook that talks about potty training, highlight that sheet up, staple it to the plastic bag and place it in that child's cubby. Bring up your policy at pick-up as well. Overkill. The only thing that works sometimes.

She said it works fantastic as the parents who have found it and brought it to her attention are her "golden families" and the others..... well we know they didn't read the handbook so...

She said she moves it randomly to a different place in her policies every time she prints out her handbook for new enrollees.

I absolutely love this idea...I'm going to do this. There's no way some of the parents read the handbook when they are constantly not following my policies...even though I have an entire sheet for them to initial which states they agree, understand, have read each portion of it. I think they just go through and initial them all and never even read that part of it either, and even though when I do an interview, I sit there and open the policy and briefly skim over every portion of it...not in detail, but just to make them aware it 's there.

I think I'm going to actually sit there and read EVERYTHING page by page from now on...

I would just pray that he poops in that underwear. I wouldn't even bother to shake it over the toilet to empty it-just put it right into DCM's or DCD's hand when they come to get him and let them know that he is NOT coming into your home again without a pull-up or diaper until YOU say so.

Yeah...well he DID poop in his (diaper) this morning. If he'd have had that mess in underwear (it was no means solid) I'd have been one unhappy provider and I think the parents would have heard a few words from me. He doesn't even say anything when he goes...I don't know until I smell him.

Ahhhh, I'm going through the same thing! I have a 2.5 year old who's mom swears he stays dry at home. Well, she shows up here today with the baby and 2.5 year old and declares that she and the 2.5 year old are going to have a mommy and M day. So she asks M to ask me to use the bathroom before they leave the baby. So M and I walk to the bathroom and I pull down his pants (he doesn't even do that) and he had underwear on! This child has not been dry at my house at all! So then she calls me and asks what kind of underwear she should buy-the padded or non padded. Of course I said either would be fine. Ugh I wish I had a backbone and told her what I was really thinking! I too have a thing about potty training in my hb, but obviously she didn't read it! If he does come in underwear tomorrow, I am going to make sure I tell her what my policy is! And I'm not going to back down either! Hmph! I will not back down..

At daycare they only wear loose pants ( no underwear as, apparently this confuses the child) for Three months!!!! The kid is not trained, you are. If underwear confuses a child they don't really understand about potty use and I certainly have no interest in ever visiting someone whose kid had been bare butt all over the furniture, constantly- not the quirky little rip off the diaper and escape that toddlers do.

I told the mum 2 weeks dry before underwear and was told she wouldn't be wearing underwear at all. I said that wasn't ok with me and was told I'd be undoing all the progress they had made.

She showed up today in loose t-shirt material pant, no underwear and no pull-up. I kind of am at the point of making this non-negotiable and I don't do confrontation well.

I can find tons of home daycare replies that are similar to yours online. I don't think I am being unreasonable requiring underwear.
