I Feel So Bad

I feel so bad for the parents when they pick up their daughter. She cries bloody murder and says she doesn't want to go home. Today her mom said she wouldn't come back here if she keeps it up. Mom doesn't work; she just wants dcg to play with other kids.

What do I say to her? I don't want to lose this dcg at all. All of the kids make a fuss when they go home from here. How do I reassure the mom?

I get this too with, and I know it stings for the parents. If they are young toddlers I let parents know there will be a stage coming up soon where it will be the opposite and they will NOT want to come through the door in the morning. That stage will pass too. For preschoolers I just try to make sure we are winding down for the day with something not too exciting before hometime. Sometimes it just does not work. Transitions are brutal & just need to happen quick. At least they know there child is comfortable in care and has bonded with their provider. It just makes it really awkward when they bond to the point where you are peeling them off you at the end of the day and handing the wailing toddler off to the mom while they reach out for you. Let her know it is common & not just her child.

When mom arrives to pick up, the child is crying because she WANTS to continue playing with other kids.....

I'd explain to mom that she IS getting exactly as she (mom) wants. Her DD is playing with other kids which she (the DD) obviously enjoys or she wouldn't be screaming when it's time to go home.

Mom cant have it both ways,
