References

When a client requests references, do you give them current clients, past clients, or both? Do you state the relationship to each reference? What do you guys do? This is the first time I've had anyone ask for referrences

I do past and current. I state the aprox age of the children and how long I cared for them for past clients and then list current parents separate.
I always feel nervous when someone doesn't ask or check references- I want them to know about me and my program before they sign.

I give both also. I only give out maybe 4 references per potential client (2 current and 2 previous) and I rotate them each time I give them out so that the same clients and previous clients don't keep getting the same calls (and I always ask them first before adding them to my list).

I give former and current clients and also a few personal references like my neighbors.

I have a list broken up into two sections "current clients" and "past clients".

I list their names, phone number, and the years that their children attended the daycare.

Sort of like this, but formatted.

Daughter, Jessica, has attended daycare sine July 2010.

I give one current parent, one past parent, one other work reference (the lady that runs our church nursery and that i have worked for)

I give references from:

• 1 current family
• 1 past family (that aged out)
• 1 family I termed
• 1 family who termed me

ALL amicable departures but I think prospective parents appreciate the past and termed family's input because they are the most unbiased.
