    First Accident :(

Today after lunch, I could smell a yucky diaper so I went around and checked the kids' diapers. The 20 month old that I have, decided to run away from me as his pants were halfway down. Well he was turning around laughing at me while he ran away and tripped and fell and hit his head on my entertainment center. ( I usually have the edges covered, but the kids keep pulling them off and hitting each other with them so they weren't on). He ran to me with blood gushing out of his forehead! He had a gash on his forehead and it looked like he needed stitches. The bleeding stopped fairly quickly, but there was so much blood! I was shaking! I called mom and she came and got him right away. I held it together until mom was walking out the door then I started crying and then..... it just came pouring out. The mom gave me a hug and said that she has a feeling this won't be the last time. (he is a very energetic child)
I don't know yet if he needs stitches. Bad, bad day!

This is something that is quite common for kids this age. When it happens to our own child, we feel bad...but when it happens to someone else's child in our care, we feel even worse.

I know with my daycare kids I'm always so much more cautious than with my own kids because you just never know how a parent will react. Sounds like your dcm totally understands.

Don't let it eat you up...of course here I am the one saying this after my 2.5 yo banged his forehead (on purpose) onto my floor as he was throwing a tantrum. He had a huge swelling there as well as a rug burn type look to it...and I feel awful also.

It happened to one of my dcbs last week!

It feels terrible,I know. But it truly was an accident and Mom will understand.

My dcb came back a few hours later with stitches,I just hugged him and we talked about our walking feet (he was also doing a half run when he fell)

His Mom was very nice about it and she said they have to take him in all of the time because he is constantly falling and hitting his head!

I'm sorry you're dealing with this

I had a 4.25 year old trip over a small rock and land on his head today.

I have *no clue* how he managed it, but it was kinda funny. There was no blood or anything though. Just a head bonk.

someone posted it for me, sorry!

I was going to add that I'm sorry that happened, poor you and poor dcb! I hope he's okay and i'm glad dcm understands!!!

Thanks everyone, I feel better! The mom called and said that he had to get three stitches, but he was fine. She also said that she was just waiting for it to happen, he falls all the time. Needless to say, I'm going to the store and am going to buy the bumpers that they can't take off!

Mom sounds great! I had a boy push a boy who ended up with stitches. I felt horrible. I termed pusher a few days later when he threw a large rock at another boy.
