    Just another manic Monday......

Well I found out late Friday afternoon my daughter was getting an award today..... I had No kids scheduled for today....

BUT I had my first inspection for the food program thingie..not the health department one but the one with the sponsor agency because I'm not licensed.

They didn't give me a time so I tried to call them Friday to let them know I'd be gone from noon until 230 pm today... Never got them.... Left a voicemail.... Tried to call them this morning.... Nothing.... Left another voice mail... And when it came time to leave I left a note on my front door....

I was pretty sure they wouldn't get here before me because they are city folk u familiar with my rural area and my house doesn't GPS.

So I go to awards day... My daughter got the social studies award and honor roll... And about ten minutes before I left the school the inspection people called saying they were getting off the interstate.... So I explained I was right up the road at the school.... S I left the school headed towards my house and get to my driveway and they called me again... They were lost.....in my area but lost as heck... So lost they didn't even know how to tell me where they were ..

So I give her some more directions...hang up... My mom of my special little girl called and said dcg was released from the hospital this morning and she had to work could she come.... I said of course...she had given me a heads up a few days ago that dcg was going to be released.... They were only about 30 minutes away at the time...

So then the inspection people call me again... They are lost again about three miles away... I give them more directs and stay on the phone with them and they pass my driveway.... Anyway I finally got them here. Right at the same time my special baby got here

One of the two ladies is terrified of cats.... The other one is terrified of dogs... They did well ... They checked their health records.... Under cabinets... The usual... Then locked themselves in e kids bathroom and asked how I normally would get a kid out... So I saved them from the bathroom .

They walked all over the house... And into my kids rooms which are not daycare areas and my kids rooms are clean... Not spotless perfect but clean beds even made... My son left his train tracks put together before we went to e school and they said those had to be cleaned up... It was just a track circle ... Ad my daughters book shelf had two books out of place... She said those would have to be fixed before the health department came for their inspection....

She said everything was PERFECT for their inspection but she knew the other guy was picky. So I said I better call off daycare that day and send my kids somewhere because books were not going to be perfect in non daycare areas... And there would most definitely be a crease in my sons covers and his train track circle is always left down.

She loved my house and said the floors were perfect and everything was so perfect she could tell it wasn't a last minute cleaning. She said the pool was fine but she thought the health department may require a cover she wasn't sure yet shed let me know.

She said she could tell my kids have a lot of fun here and loved how I interacted with my own kids as well.
She loved my special little dcg and said they understood why mom drove an hour one way to bring her here.

It felt good to hear the good things I've never had any sort of inspection other than when my NHI or CDA ladies come twice a month... They assess my interactions etc...

BUT GOSH... It was hectic.... I could tell they weren't used to providers who live this far out in the woods.

    Congratulations to your daughter! happyface
The food program sponsors had to check out your whole house? That seems odd! Is that a requirement in your state or something?
It always seems to be a hectic day when any people come to inspect anything!

Apparently they do... Even my closet in the master bedroom which is key locked.... And my daughters room is key locked as well... She said the health department guy would check even the locked closets

I would freak!! My inspection people are only allowed in my care areas... If my daycare kids aren't allowed neither are they- this is still my home- the only exception is the furnace room on the lower floor- but that is part of following regulations-
If they aske to see my kids bedrooms I would refuse...

I was a little irritated yes. I wasn't irritated about them seeing non daycare areas because every area in my house is clean. But who expects a child's room to be PERFECT. Actually his room was very very clean... Not even a single toy out.... Except the circle train track... And his bed wasn't made perfect because he does it himself.

And my daughters room was spotless except two books that were out of place on her book shelf...

Again I don't mind them inspecting areas that aren't daycare. But don't expect a kids room to be cleaner than mine already were. That and my private master locked closet is a little cluttered right now. Not bad just cluttered. That closet is on the master side of the house and is completely locked off for daycare kids. I can't see what my locked master closet in a locked area has ANYTHING to do with the food program.

Again, she said everything from her stand point was perfect but she told both my kids their room has to be better for the other inspection... Both their jaws dropped ... Mainly because at room check this morning they passed my inspection

            Good for you! happyface
this is wierd though. What do the non care areas of your house have to do with the food program? I can understand licensing going through your house, but food program? Why is the food program worried about how you get a child out of the bathroom if they lock themselves in? Why are they worried about your kids toys and books? This just sounds more like a licensing inspection
            So wierd...

Patches I have NO IDEA. The thing is that I participate in this NHI and CDA program and the CDA lady knows all about the rules for licensing. I talked to her this afternoon when they left and she was just as stumped.

She said that these people were a LOT more strict than for licensing. The weird thing too is at THESE ladies actually passed me. But they were telling me the things the health department inspection would say. They actually go on the health department inspections WITH that person that's how they know what the guy is going to say.

They were out there inspecting my septic stuff outside but then admitted they didn't even know that the field line was supposed to run CLEAR. I had to educate THEM on what was the correct inspection of a septic tank etc. I guess they don't see septic much because they are used to the city life.

Also, our house is in a conventional foundation (off the ground) and she told me last week on the phone we are required to have skirting around the house. I asked her what that had to do with the food program she said she had no idea but that was the regulations. Which actually we had just moved here the end of last year and already had plans to do the skirting I just couldn't understand how that related to the food program

What it is is that these people sponsor me in the food program because the food program is supposed to only be available to the people who are licensed. Since I'm not, they sponsor me and sign a contract with me and e food program for my food money. That's why they require the health department inspection.

Bt I've never heard of areas that are not daycare areas even mattering in a licensing inspection and neither could my CDA lady who does licensing inspections all day long. That's why I know the rules and keep my program up to and past the standards. She said she was completely clueless .

Another weird thing. To get licensed you have to have a three pound fire extinguisher. Bt these people require a five pound.

Licensing doesn't care about skirting or make me rescue an inspector from a locked bathroom . Nor do they care about my kids locked rooms or my locked master closet.

I dunno... I'm going to wait to hear what their determination is next week about the pool, etc and then decide if I even want to fiddle with any if that junk .

So my CDA lady came in today for our every other week lesson and goodie bring session.

I tell her about what happened with the inspection the other day.

Now, keep in mind, this lady does inspections for LICENSING, not the food program. She was ABSOLUTELY HORRIFIED that those two ladies did what they did the other day. She said they are NOT allowed in the non daycare areas. She said they were just being nosy. She said as soon as they told my daughter she should do a better job keeping her books in order etc that shed have told the lady to shove her non profit agency where the sun don't shine .

I asked her to do a pretend licensing inspection of my home, just like if I was really getting licensed. She took out her check list, and I passed with 100% and she wrote all kinds of positive comments such as my interaction with the children, how clean my home is, how organized I am, raves about my program I offer, etc etc.

She said she was going to talk to her boss and let him know what happened. My CDA lady was really pissed. More than I was.

I understand the non profit agency wants to be sure I'm a good provider because they are my middle man to the food program money. They sign they form with their reputation on the line.

But like the CDA lady said they didn't check my stove, dishwasher, sink, nothing actually related to the food program. Didn't say a word about the fact I have fire alarms, exit signs, emergency preparedness plans, really NOTHING that would impact the care of the children.

When I told her the ladies came dressed to the church nines in high heeled shoes she said too bad they didn't trip and roll down the mud in the driveway .

Just wanted to update you guys on what she said.

THAT would REALLY bother me! Honestly I would want them to loose their jobs if inspecting the PRIVATE areas of my family home area was not supossed to be done. Invasion of privacy. They have no place commenting on my child's room if it is not part of the daycare. What in the world does book out of place in my child's room which is not part of the daycare have to do with the food program?

The thing is that one of the two ladies at came IS the supervisor.... She should know the rules....

And the thing is, if she was nosey all she had to do was say " your house is beautiful, and this isn't part of the inspection but can I see e kids rooms" and it would have been fine.

GOOD FOR HER!!!!! That is just plain straight ridiculous and I'm upset for you.

Those people would not be allowed in my home ever again. I can guarantee that their feet would not touch the inside of my house in the future. Better send someone else.

Well since the prices for Childcare **** here I was hoping the food program would help with my profit margin, what little it is.

And according to my CDA lady, my house is one of the best she's ever been. She said some of the others on the food program she wonders how they could possibly pass inspection.

Oh I agree, if they had simply asked if they could look at the rest of the house I likely would have been okay with that as I have nothing to hide. Just depended on my comfort level with them, taking strangers through my home. It may not be spotless and have everything in place, but certainly a clean lived in look. It is the abuse of authority making you feel you were required to and required to keep it a certain way that upsets me. I get their curiosity. I bet after they see a spotless daycare setting they wonder what the rest of the house looks like - Is it the same or like a bad episode of hoarders?

Maybe that's what they were thinking..l. But then why the comment about the books out of place and my sons train track pieces on the floor.... That's what I don't understand....

Normally her room and his room wouldn't have been perfect but she had just walked in from school and he had been at awards day with me and before that we had been outside so he hadn't played in it at all that day.

And the funny thing... She was TERRIFIED of my daughters pet dumbo rat named CUPCAKE. Ten she asked if she'd had her SHOTS. I'm like, rats don't get shots. She's domesticated, not wild. She does get a yearly wellness exam though.
