Gross Bottles

I have a family that brings the same bottle each day. When I open the darn thing I am blasted with a horrid sour milk aroma and sometimes I can see slimy milk residue stuck to the sides. I end up washing it and putting a little bleach in it also. It is so gross!

How do the parents not notice this? You can't not smell it when you open it. I would think even fresh milk would taste gross after being in the bottle but dcgirl still drinks it.

I stop letting parents bring in sippy cups & supply them myself because they would have black mold in the mouth piece, YAK!!! I would show the parent & they act like it must have just happened.

Ewwww! I once had a parent that brought bottles and there was stuff floating all around in them. It was so gross that I gagged. I had to just tell the parents that they bottles had stuff floating in them and they didn't seem like they noticed-I don't know how! After that they came in clean!

Ask that they provide a bottle at the daycare for you to use and not to bring one in anymore. This way you can ensure that he/she is drinking out of a clean bottle.

Because you do this:

I'd require them to bring you two new bottles to keep at your house. If they supply the contents have them bring that separately and you fill the bottles yourself. That way you will ALWAYS have fresh clean bottles available.

Ewwwwwwww! That black mold is dangerous! I have really on-the-ball parents right now, But I would supply my own too if I noticed gunk or mold in cups.

Dcg doesn't actually use a bottle here. They bring it in the morning and I can see the dcg has had a bottle of milk on the way over. She uses a cup all day since she just turned 2yo. I wash the bottle and fill it with water which I assume dcg drinks on the way hone.

In that case, I would casually mention to the parents "Say, I know I usually fill DCG's bottle with water for the trip home, but lately I've noticed the bottles seem to be growing some sort of mold so I didn't fill it today. Sorry."

MOST* parents would be mortified enough so that they would probably not bring you any more moldy bottles.....

It is for this reason as well as other liabilities that i will not serve a child a prepared bottle from the diaper bag. I always make the bottles here and i keep bottles here as well. There have been too many threads about moldy bottles, too many news reports of spiked bottles, and too many people bringing in "ripe" bottles. I would do as pp said...dont fill bottle with water and tell parents you noticed something in the bottle. Yuck

I would let them fill it with water themselves if they want. Let them smell it.

But, also, I don't think I would ever use bleach in a child's bottle. Even a small amount every day could harm her. I'd wash it with soap and hot water, but not bleach. I'd go out and buy some other bottles to donate to them before i'd put bleach in them.

I have parents who will FLIP out if they even smell bleach when they walk in. I had one mom who would take her son and leave if she could smell bleach. It was weird.

Also... on occasion, I have accidentally thrown things like that away, I have no idea how it ended up in the outside dumpster, but, suddenly...there it was.

Really? About once per week I soak the sippy cups and lids in soapy bleach water. I only use a few drops of bleach in a sink full of water and rinse them well. I do the same with some of the smaller plastic toys.

As long as the bottles are rinsed very well after using e bleach. Is FINE.

gosh, 99.9% of providers are required to use bleach on toys, it's the same thing. They put those toys IN THEIR MOUTH.

But about the bottle.....EWWWWWWWWWWWWW

I'd flat out tell r parents those bottles are dangerous and can make the child very very sick.

If they are not using that bottle there, tell the parents to not being it into the house.
