I have a dcg who will be leaving at the end of June, because she starts kg in the fall and is not in our elementary school. I have had this girl since she was 7 weeks old! I would like to get her a good bye gift but have no idea what to get. It is not a good bye to the family, as I am still supposed to be watching her younger sister in the fall, although mom indicated they might find someone else due to preschool transportation issues. Anyway, I have no idea what to give her! Anyone have any ideas? She has been with me since the year I opened as well, so that makes it a little more special to me. Does anyone else give gifts for children graduating from your programs? Any suggestions for a nice simple gift to give her?
Good Bye Gift?

I went on walmart's website and uploaded photos I had taken into those books you can make. I don't for all families, though just special ones.- Flag

I like the book idea!
That's nice that you are doing something! I have 2 leaving soon and am undecided about whether or not I'm getting them something.- Flag

I have done lots of things in the past. I love the photo book idea. I also once gave a very special family a personalized snow globe from Things Remembered.
This year, I am giving all of the kids little beach bags with their names on them (I got them from VistaPrint). I am filling them with bubbles, beach balls, pinwheels, chalk (all from the dollar store). I don't usually do end of the year gifts, but I am closing so I thought it was a good idea this year.- Flag

Last year I bought a copy of Dr Seuss's "Oh, The Places You'll Go" and wrote a nice letter with lots of memories of their time here to go with it. The parents were visibly touched ad the kids will have a nice keepsake for themselves as they grow up.
In all fairness, I think I saw this idea originally here, so I can't take credit for originality ::.

I sometimes fill a small canvas tote bag with the book, "The Night Before Kindergarten" by Natasha Wing, a small photo album that includes pictures of the child at day care and crayons and a pad of blank paper or coloring book in it. I trace the handprints of the other kids in my care on the outside of the canvas tote and write their names under their handprint as a reminder of who their friends were while at my day care.- Flag

I have one family who do/did that. I got the first page and as each of their 3 kids move through the years their teachers write on the next page. I like it because I was the person who bought them the book to begin with when baby #2 came. They went out and bought 2 other copies so each kid could have one.- Flag
