Real Consequences Or Just A Slap On The Wrist?

what exactly happens when a complaint is filed?

do they actually get into any kind of trouble or have any consequences?

will the daycare know who filed a complaint?

i want to call licensing about the cleanliness and over-capacity of a daycare my child attended... i just want the problem fixed..doesn't really bother me if nothing happens with her license.. i just want it safe and clean!

    1. if its health and saftey and its effecting your child, I would remove them immediately

2.have you talked to the person in charge about your concerns.

3.also do you have more details what is exactly wrong, like over capcity, can some of the kids belong to the owner, I have parents who linger and there kids are here and the cleanliness, are you talking dishes or dirty diapers hanging around.

4.remember that this is her paycheck, before you call just make sure you have concrete proof

Ok , well depending on what state you live in ...it varies
      But here in California..
Licensing will make an unannounced visit to the daycare and will do a walk through, count kids and look at his or her records.
They look for general cleanliness ... toys, on the floor and a few dishes in the sink are o.k. but if the center has severe filth or is over capacity then the owner will be written up and it will be in her public file.
Usually the daycare knows who called but lic rep are not allowed to say.

Maybe you can have a nice talk with the daycare if you don't want anything to happen with her license.
Just say, "hey I noticed that your home is dirty and I am concerned for the kids."
It really does go both ways.. I have helped out parents a lot over the years.
I have had kids show up to daycare dirty,in clothes that don't fit etc.
I don't turn them in to cps ... I give them a bath and put clothes that on them.. (That's just the kind of person I am)
Maybe offer to help her out? Go over there this weekend and help her clean and organize?
If she is doing crafts, sending the kids home clean, playing with them and is a good provider and the only problem is her house( as long as it's not dangerous) then I would just help her or find someone to help her.

Are we talking disorganized or downright filthy?

Are you SURE she is over capacity?

If you really feel the provider doesn't have a safe, clean home for the children to be in, and there are too many kids in her care - then I think you should report. I don't think speaking to her personally will solve anything - it will probably only make her angry.

We all (even us legally unlicensed providers) know what we need to do (both legally and morally) to provide safe/clean care to other people's kiddos... and if we don't, I think there should be consequences.

          I agree.

i have already pulled my child from her care. when i would pick him up, i just felt he was dirty(which is horrible to say as a mom :/)

when i say the house was dirty, i mean smelly, disorganized....idk how to explain if fully. she has 3 chihuahuas that she refuses to put outside(they're inside dogs) and the house smells STRONGLY of urine and feces..a smell that hits you like a brick wall when she opens the door..

over capacity in CA means more than 8 kids per 1 adult.. she is licensed to watch 14 with her daughter(assistant) wo is 22 yrs old, but i noticed many times when i picked up my child that the mother(DCP) was not there, but the were clearly more than 8 kids still present in the daycare home...

I would without a doubt report your concerns, so licensing can see for themselves what you describe.

If you were smelling strong unrine and feces than there is deifnitely a sanitary issue. I have two cats and a house full of kiddos in dipes, so my house can have some stink to it for moments of the day. After our cats or kids pee/poop the dipes/litter box is dealt with immediately and the house sprayed... so no stink ever lingers for long periods of time.

Being out of ratio can be extremely dangerous (I don't know about anyone else, but when I read about accidents and deaths in daycares the majority of the time there is mention that there were way too many kids in care)! This is my biggest pet peeve when it comes to daycares!

Report and move on. I hope you've found somewhere you feel more comfortable and confident leaving your son

If a house smelled that bad I wouldn't have signed up with her in the 1st place.

i recently was in a similar situation! i filed a complaint.. they checked it out.. she got cited..and they called me to let me know!

very happy and hopefully she takes care of what she needs to do..!

you HAVE to think about ur kids before anybody!.. if they are in an unsafe environment-then you shouldn't be worried about her job(obviously, if she isn't doing things right, she's not worried either)

OK now that i know the facts, that helps...
I was picturing normal daycare mess but if the dogs are allowed to run around using the bathroom everywhere, then yea that is a sanitary issue.
I would say, yes, report this.
