    Yesterdays Interview

Girl is almost 4. Mom asked how the kids get on the toilet??????

Wasn't sure what to say. They just kind of pull themselves up. She wants a stool. Maybe for like one day...

Lol a four year old needs a stool?? I'm like you, I'm sure they'd learn real quick how to get up there. Even my smallest three year old can pull herself onto the toilet.

I was once told by a mom that I'd be amazed by her daughters self help skills. I thought....cool! She was 3.5 years old. I sent her to go potty....she stood in front of the toilet and did nothing else. I said....pull down your britches! She didn't know how! She is still very slow and uncertain of everything she does here....but SHE does do it now! NO, I was not amazed!

Lol.... Last year I started keeping a dcg who is now three... She was two at the time.... Her mom was like oh she knows all of her abcs and numbers and can write them all etc... Turns out the child only knew the abc sing and couldn't identify the FIRST letter or number much less write them . Funny thing is I don't expect them to be able to identify or write them at two.. But boy did she brag about it... At the time my sin was three and he couldn't do his either at that time. So I mentioned he didn't know his and she some reason felt the need to show him up.. Turns out it was the complete opposite ..

Come to think of it...they arrived while we were eating snack. I invited the girl to join us. I poured her milk in an open cup like everyone else. The mom held the cup for her to help her to not spill. I just casually said....we risk spills here while they are learning. Now I am thinking......at almost 4 she should have that down pat! Oh, if they actually enroll her here....she will learn a lot! I don't DO for kids what they are capable of doing for themselves.

I have a stool, but it is because the way the bathroom is positioned, if a kid falls, they are going to crack their head open on the step to my whirlpool tub. Ds did that at 3, and it needed two stitches, so I won't risk it with a dck.

However, open cups at age 2, I offer assistance with shoes and clothes, I never do for a child what they are capable of doing for themselves.

I feel the opposite....kids will fall easier with a stool than just trying to slide up onto the toilet. Kids have to be 3 to come here...so maybe that's the difference. I don't help with shoes unless they are brand new (first day or 2) and have no self help skills.

Oh my! My 2's do fine with 5 oz. Dixie cups and we rarely have a spill! I guess parents just REALLY depend on sippy cups foe wayyyyy too long!

Ditto, but I have a stool also because it's needed for handwashing. They pull it over to the toilet if they need it, then put it back to wash hands. Since my bathroom is about 2 feet square they don't have to move it far.

I have a stool by the potty and a stool by the sink. I, personally, like my own feet on the little children's stool and I know some of them do as well. :: You need to google squatty potty.

I always find people who think their children are advanced, or want them to be Harvard ready in a year, are the ones who have very d e l a y e d children. I have one of those here as well. When he came, he didn't know how to put on his shoes and you'd have to walk him through it step by step. Same for going to the restroom despite being potty trained. Oh, and same goes for actually playing with a toy.

I have a stool here, but it is used for hand washing too so they do like to pull it over. Plus, my vanity is right next to the toilet and I don't want them to fall and bump their heads.
