In previous years, we have allowed teachers to pay a $50.00 weekly holding fee for their spots over the summer break (only summer break). This entitled them to Have their spot back in August, and also their hold got to attend one day a week (usually we gave each family one day of the week, so that the children took up 1 full time spot). We did this because we have a large license, which requires two staff members present - so with the lower number of kids each of us was able to take some time off - so it benefitted is also.
The past few summers, the number of teachers children has decreased and the children staying out hasn't lowered our numbers enough I allow only 1 staff member to be present. We also don't take SA anymore, so we don't fill those spots anymore. But we felt bad changing the policy on our current clients, so we waited to stop.
This year, about a month ago - I contacted all 4 DCM who are teachers. 1 is leaving for school in the fall, 1 is not (and never has) paid to hold her spot - she is willing to risk it, 1 financially can't afford it this year, and 1 will be working throughout the summer - so their schedule will say the same. So no one was taking us up on this policy, so for us it was a perfect time to end it.
This morning DCD (of the family who was supposed to be working this summer) wants to know if they can hold their spot over the summer. I have actually never give them the info about the policy, but they are BFF with another DCF who is a teacher also and told them about the policy.
I have based our summer schedule around him telling us that DCB would be coming all summer. I have turned away 3 infants in the past month, because he would be here all summer. I want to tell DCF that when I asked over a month ago, I based my summer schedule around DCB being here. And since everyone opted out this summer - we are not offering the "spot holding" policy this year. I feel bad, but I was more than willing to offer it to them when I asked for summer schedules over Spring Break, but because no one took me up on it, I went ahead with the plans they gave me. Do you think that I am justified ?
This policy is NOT in our contract. So that isn't an issue.
