    Two questions...

    1. Is there a website or something where you can find yardsales listed? I always seem to miss the good ones.

    2. My job gave me one of those cribs that licensing outlawed last year - white, metal bars, basic foldaway crib. I dont mind using it, but the mattress is a dinky piece of foam rubber. I want to get a new mattress but I dont if that's okay, or even if a standard crib mattress will fit.

    Would you try to replace the mattress? And if you couldn't, would you just use the ****y one or try to find another crib?

    I always use Craigslist for yard sales.

      In my area, yard sales are posted on signs along neighborhoods.

      As for the crib, I would honestly do my best to try and find another one. I would feel really uncomfortable using a crib that was no longer approved by the CPSC.

      (Unless, you mean that licensing just doesn't approve it any more but it DOES still meet the CPSC safety guidelines. )

        Yes, licensing required daycares to replace those cribs with the wooden ones with the Plexiglas ends...I was at my old place and remember ordering the new ones.

        I honestly never thought about that... I knew it didn't meet licensing standards anymore but I didn't think it was because they were unsafe. (I guess I also didn't think they'd give me unsafe crib just to get rid of it )

        I'll have to look that up...thanks BC.

          Note: Child care facilities, family child care homes, and places of public accommodation should not resell, donate or give away a crib that does not meet the new crib standards, such as trying to resell the product through an online auction site or donating to a local thrift store. CPSC recommends disassembling the crib before discarding it.

          That's what I found on the CPSC website. It also said any crib in use before June 28, 2011 is unlikely to meet the new standards. So, I guess it's time to shop for a new one....

          Thanks so much. I can't imagine why anyone would want to leave this forum. lovethis

            If you are talking a porta crib you can order 2 or 3 inch thick mattresses many places.... and if the porta crib happens to be a LABABY a holiday crib. check the date on the bottom mine was before the date but they actually tested the older ones and I got a certificate stating mine was safe.
            It:: will wait
