    Another Pet Peeve

My pet peeve is next week

Every year I search for the perfect Mother's Day gift for the kids to make. I ask how many they want and let the kids give to grandma's as well. I end up spending a small fortune. I get very few "thank you's"

It's also teacher appreciation week and provider appreciation day next week. Although I have almost all teachers kids, last year not one of them even uttered any kind of appreciation words to me let along any kind of card or gift. I know they DO appreciate me, but they are not thinking of me. They DO think of me as a teacher because that's why they chose me as their provider. I teach.

I dread this week every year. Last year a mom posted on Facebook the teacher appreciation gift she made for her daughter's teacher. I wanted to comment....your son has a teacher as well. No, not in a brick building, but she is his teacher all the same.

I'm thinking of gifting to myself....like a nice lunch while the kids are napping. Is that lame?

I hope you guys have better luck. It's not about the gifts...it's about being appreciated.

Well I don't think about it much for Mother's Day but I've had that problem at Christmas. I agree that it is NOT about the gift but that you are recognized.

The first few years I had a great group who thought about me on various occasions. A few now but in some years I got a quick thank you for gifts I gave to the children but that was a kind of "take the present and say thanks as they were walking out". Later, they never told me if the children liked the gift or anything.

Same with take home gifts I had the children make for their parents. The early parents used to gush over them but recently I don't hear anything. There is always one in the group that is extra generous so that gives me some hope for polite humanity.

I think your gift to yourself is a cool idea.

My provider friend had a sneaky way to get her parents to tell her happy birthday. I wouldn't do it but it made me laugh. She went to the dollar store one year and got a mylar happy birthday ballon. She tied it to a bench that sits outside her front door. When the parents asked about it she said that a former daycare parent came by and surprised her by putting it there. At pick up one of the mom's brought her a fancy cupcake and told her Happy Birthday. ::

I always gift myself . I know I'll like it I do so much for family, friends, DCP and hardly ever treat myself so every now and then I get something to eat from my favorite place or buy a little something. Makes me happy!

My longest dcm has a pinterest board on teacher appreciation gifts. She's always telling me about the cute ideas she's found. I am the only person who has ever cared for her children. I have never received a word of thanks or any sort of gift. I don't know who she is saving all of those pinterest ideas for-by the time her oldest goes off to school, all of those ideas will be old fashioned.

But, it makes the kids really happy, and seeing their excitement makes me happy, and I keep telling myself that it's a rare job that allows you to be part of making someone so happy. Sometimes, it's a real stretch. ::

Oh! Sunchimes, that is really sad!

I can't imagine why that DCM would be so thoughtless. I'm sorry. I hope she is a great daycare parent in all other areas.

It is really nice that you still choose to do things with the DCK's despite their parents inability to "get it" sometimes.
