    I'm So Sad Today

Today was DCB's (and younger siste's) last day. I am really going to miss him. He is in foster care and had to go to a different family because the first placement wasn't working out. They stayed with us at our center to help with the transition (so that everything didn't change all at one time), but they are doing so well, and our center isn't very close to where they live now.

We haven't had him very long, but he is one of those kids who has such personality and is just so fun to have. It really seems like he has been with us forever. And I always hate to say good bye.

So, when they were pulling out of the parking lot and we were waving good bye, another DCB says something about playing with him tomorrow. I told him, "No, DCB is going to a new school now."And what does DCB say? "Why? He don't like us anymore?" Broke my heart.

I don't really need help or advice with anything (maybe just hugs), I just needed to share with people who will understand.

It can be very easy to get attached to a special child. Is there any way you can keep in touch on occasion to check in and see how he's doing? That might make you feel better. lovethis

:hug::hug: So sorry to hear about this situation- just remember that they have hopefully found a better living situation and will be thriving!

I totally understand. I'm also a licensed foster parent and when two boys with big personalitites left last fall, it was horrible.

The bad thing was I had no idea where they were going to. Fortunately I had contacted their dad by facebook and several months later he let me know he had custody of them and I was able to speak with them on the phone...and so did my other dck's who missed them very much also.

 It's great to hear his new foster family cared enough to put his needs first but I do understand the sadness that comes when a child you've come to love leaves your care.

 I understand. It's hard when you get so attached.

Thank you for your kind words everyone. I am feeling a lot better today, we definitely missed him yesterday (Friday) but it wasn't so bad.

That is one thing that made it better. The new family wants to spend more time with the kids, not more time driving them to daycare.
