Who do you think you are fooling?

"DCB2 is not allowed to have pacifier anytime except during nap" says DCM...

Yet every Monday he cries for it. all. day. long... Hmmm. its now Tues. and he is still asking.

    I'm closed weekends. Obviously.
This is not fair to me and not fair to DCB and not fair to other DCK who don't want to hear it.

    How to approach?

A 2 year old would not be getting a paci in my house, period. I don't allow them, even for nap after 12 months or so.

I would just tell the child "no" and ignore. There's nothing you can do about mom/dad giving it to him 24/7 at home. Parents will usually do what's best/easiest for them.

There is no point if she gives it all evening and all weekend.

I have one who uses it at home and here, puts it in her bag. I simply told her no paci here, put it up. Now she does it just to get a high five . She's 18 months

I wish it were that easy with this kid. This has been going on since December. He can't handle the back and forth.

Unless you think he'll fall asleep, every time he asks put him in bed and say "We only get it at nap time so you must be tired." If he cries, go in and get him up but leave paci in the bed. If he is quiet go in and get him after about 5 minutes and ask him if he'd like to play now. Again, put paci in bed. It will be a pain for a bit but he should get the idea after a while that paci's will just be given for resting times.

We have been having a lot of trouble getting my grandson off of one. He still takes one at bedtime ONLY at 2 1/2 years old. It happens. As long as he just uses it in bed, I'm not gonna really freak out about it.

I did the above with my grandson to get him to take it only at naptime. He was never a constant user anyway so we can't figure out why he loves it soooo much.

When I did the above I'd swear that sometimes he'd whine about it just so he go get his paci fix in bed. ::

What I would say to the mom is "So how is he doing with only taking the paci in bed over the weekend?" I like to do that to see the look on their guilty faces. If she gives a generic response like "Oh he's coming along." Say "Well how exactly are you doing it so I can try the same here because he is resisting here." Sometimes that makes the ones who aren't really doing it feel guilty and try harder.

for my sanity and others i would give him one. I have spares that I keep and I'm not going to ween someone when they go home and on the weekend get it. There is nothing wrong with it, so don't feel bad. My 3 kids had it and they are all fine.

Has he been able to use the pacifier at your house before?

I feel your pain! I don't allow the kids to have them except for naps, but the mom of one of my kids wants it gone completely. I took it after being reassured by mom he does well at home without it - he screamed and cried for TWO hours...So no one got any sleep...Found out that at home, Dad has to sleep with him...

Omg, what is wrong with these people? They expect us to do what they can't even do at home and it is one on one there! We truly do earn our money. ::

Haha, ask them if dad can come over at naptime to lie down with him. ::::::

Sometimes with kids, it's all or nothing. Maybe it would be easier for him not to have it at all. Having said that, it sounds like he's getting it whenever he wants it at home. If that is the case, I would just give it back to him. First I would ask mom about it though. See if you can tell if she's fibbing or not. I had one dcm one time that said similar thing. He would come in with it in his mouth every day even though "we" were supposed to be giving it at naptime only. After a week, I said to her, "Oh, I see that we're not doing the naptime only deal with the pacifier, Let me know when you're ready to do that." Same as potty training. I'm not doing it if they're not.

I don't allow pacifiers at all.. Never. And it's never an issue. Every morning I take them from the parents and hand them back. I don't even let them stay in their box.

I think because I have never allowed them here they have never been an option.

The kids in my care that have them, just don't have them here and they know that. No confusion about it.
