Location of Changing Table

Okay, my house is a bilevel. Our lower level is about half sunk; the windows are around chest height (on my short self) and are right near ground level. So, most of the downstairs is finished and one room, the laundry/utility/storage room, is unfinished and "basementy". It's not wet or musty or anything, just cement floor, slab/unfinished walls, etc. There's an exterior door, too.

I want to put the changing table into the laundry room, right beside the washer and dryer and the exterior door, and fully visible from the steps coming downstairs. It's near the fusebox.

My sister and my mom said that they think potential parents would see the changing table being in here as a drawback and would probably not choose me.

What do you think?

I can post a picture if it helps...and if you promise not to judge me on the fact that I'm still in the middle of rearranging and decluttering the laundry room!

I'd have to see the laundry room. I can't imagine someone not choosing you based on your changing table location. I had one when I started out but it became more of a hassle, space hog, and it really wasn't working. I now place fabric bins under my coffee table and it works much better!!

What does licensing say? We have to be right by a sink here (not kitchen) for immediate handwashing. Do you have a sink in the laundry room?

Also, the fuse box would worry me. I don't know but it just doesn't sound safe to me. I know they wouldn't be playing with it but something just makes me uneasy about that.

If there is not room in the bathroom and there is a sink they go ahead. You will need to cover the fuse box some way. It can be a deadly danger.

Then go ahead and finish it and make it nice. ever with a painted floor if needed.

Do you have a bathroom on that level? I'm going to put the changing table in the shower - as no one will be using it regularly.

I just use changemats on the floor for poops and standing diapering for pees. all in the bathroom (it is a tiny room) I need ready access to water.

I am required to be able to view the other children in care when changing or at least be in the same room as them. Check licensing rules!

It amazes me the different licensing rules! Mine is on my dryer, in the walkway between my kitchen and dining room. It is on the other side of the gate from the kids. Trash can next to it. Change diaper, hop over set child in playroom and wash my hands!

My friends mom did daycare for over 15 years....I just saw her yesterday. She said she never had a changing table. She had a large and would often have assistants and volunteers and said the changing table was too dangerous. She had parents bring a changing pad and small blanket for their child and would change them on the floor. She would put down the blanket and then the changing pad and change them. I thought it made sense!

no licensing to contend with here, i'm legally unlicensed. not that there's any room i'm my bathroom, anyway. it's long and narrow, no extra space. that would be my ideal, for sure. but i want it out of the nap toulon that it's been in forever.

i took a picture...but think it looks like crap, . don't judge! i'm not done in there! it's from the bottom of the stairs...and, i have to get it off my phone first, hold on..

I change on the floor because there is no way i'm lifting the kids. But my new problem is that they all want to watch. Its becoming annoying. I can change in the bathroom but it will be on the bathmat, but I don't know. What do you guys do.

can you post a pic of your laundry room, so then I can see how you want to do it.

Countrymom, I'm changing a 2.5-year-old on the floor now as well since I'm pregnant. I just take the changing pad off of the changing table and place it on the floor.
